Should also note that European settlers in the New World endure outbreaks of smallpox and other diseases that developed into local pandemics shutting down towns as well. Acting like the Europeans all wandered around immune while the disease only attacked the natives is patently absurd.

    My are you dense.

it shows the Euros as group developed immunity to a virus which could wipe out peoples who had no immunity.

I can not believe we have morons arguing that there is no such thing as herd immunity... its almost like studies in Isreal did not come out last week and show us that natural immunity was 7 to 13 fold superior to vaccine immunity at that point in time..

    but here is wikipedia...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herd_immunity

    Herd immunity
(also called herd effect, community immunity, population immunity, or mass immunity) is a form of indirect protection from infectious disease that can occur with some diseases when a sufficient percentage of a population has become immune to an infection, whether through vaccination or previous infections,[1] thereby reducing the likelihood of infection for individuals who lack immunity.[2][3][4] Immune individuals are unlikely to contribute to disease transmission, disrupting chains of infection, which stops or slows the spread of disease.[5] The greater the proportion of immune individuals in a community, the smaller the probability that non-immune individuals will come into contact with an infectious individual.[2]

hopefully this will end the lies and the ignorance... I will post this on the herd immunity thread for deniers.

Brazil achieved herd immunity vs Zika

    https://www.webmd.com/lung/what-is-herd-immunity#1

How Do You Achieve Herd Immunity?

There are two ways this can happen.

You can develop resistance naturally. When your body is exposed to a virus or bacteria, it makes antibodies to fight off the infection. When you recover, your body keeps these antibodies. Your body will defend against another infection. This is what stopped the Zika virus outbreak in Brazil. Two years after the outbreak began, 63% of the population had had exposure to the virus. Researchers think the community reached the right level for herd immunity.

  6. Small pox killed 400,000 people a year in the 18th century in Europe....

One would think an intelligent analysis would be that those coming to the new world were not of the people who DIED from smallpox. 30% of people died so it is not some magic fantasy that herd immunity saved Europe.

    Guess what saved Europe...

    wait....

I will let you google it...

    I CANT WAIT...

The smallpox vaccine was developed in 1796 and following the Great Smallpox Pandemic of the 1870s, many countries in Europe introduced or enforced mandatory vaccination.

You all just made a bunch of arguments against the existence of herd immunity and then you have the ignorance to pretend I was wrong?

  9. No one here stated "there is no herd immunity" which shows you missed the point..it was your point that all we need is herd immunity

you made the outlandish claim that there is no need for vaccines and precautions because all we need is herd immunity. What do we do about all the thousands of people that die while waiting for this to kick in...

Ah ... @jem ... I wasn't one of the ones arguing with you about this, so I have no dog in this fight ... but ... as I recall, they argued against your application of herd immunity; not the existence of herd immunity.
