I really like your charting package. Trying it out for the past week as an alternative to what I am using now. Everything is to my liking but one issue.......and I hope you can steer me in the right direction.

I need my scaling to be consistant. One inch on my screen = $100.00. However...once I set my scale...if the price bars go out the top or bottom....it starts to mess with my scale.

I put in two horozontal lines with values to be the top and bottom of my chart....but I find myself always having to adjust the values as price penetrates and shrinks the data.

Is there an easy way to keep this consistant?

Thank you very much if you can help me out. If not...please address this issue in the future.

QT has to adjust the scale to make it so the data fits on the screen. Instead of messing with horizontal lines, just go to OPTIONS/Edit Preferences menu, CHARTS tab, MISC sub-tab. On it you will find a setting for min and max Y axis range. You may want to set the MIN range to be 1% or something like that (depends on the type of securities you are tracking)

  5. Jerry for us thicker headed types can you explain what exactly that percentage is? 1% of y axis means 1% of the total range recorded? I set the range to 1% and my YM chart changed dramataically but ES and NQ didnt change at all. I am very interested in this as constant scaling is a concern for me too. I was also unaware that you could set the top and bottom of the range. I am looking but dont see how to do this. Is this a newer version?

  6. Basically, take the % of the LAST value. That will be the minimum range displayed on the Y axis. So for example, if YM is at 10440, 1% will be 104.4. That means that the Y axis range will be at least 104.4 points (from 10410 to 10505 for example). If the data on YM is already spanning more than 104 points, than 1% setting will not have any affect.

Try zooming in - with zero as the minimum Y range, you will see the Y axis change significantly. With 1%, as you start looking at smaller time ranges, you will notice that the Y axis will not change

  7. Jerry...that solution does help but it obviously is not ideal. 1% is the smallest number and it then applies to all charts.

EACH chart should have a quick scaling feature (maybe similar to what you have at the bottom for time).

A trader needs to quickly set the scale and not have to worry about it again. If price tries to go beyond the scale, the older data should be forced outside the screen. At the very least, have a setting to allow data to go outside the screen....just so the scale is never touched.

This is a feature that is extremely important to the traders I know. We cannot have a slow non-volatile day look as if we are having huge moves. We train our eyes to a scale and having that scale messed with while trading is unacceptable.

You have a hell of a piece of software here if this issue would be addressed. I would urge others reading this to let your voice be known on scaling to Jerry.

    Thank you

  10. You can get Fido's snapshot quotes, but not streaming. No integrated trading with them. Would need their cooperation to implement streaming, trading.
