  1. The basic point I was trying to make in my first post is that I find the constant change in the price scale increment annoying.
i.e. if you are watching bars and comparing them to a vertical scale that has been showing increments of 25 cents...10.25, 10.50, 10.75, 11.00, 11.25 it is difficult to adapt to a new scale increment of 50 cents ...10.50, 11.00, 11.50, 12.00, 12.50... then a dollar ....12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00 then back to a 50 cent increment...etc. etc.
I understand that....I was suggesting adding a new scale type that incorporates some of the functions of the Sliding scale.... except that the user would:

    (1) select a vertical gridline separation increment...
QT would constantly fit the horizonal gridlines using that increment.

If the user chose to use 25 cents for this setting, adjacient prices on the y-axis would never change from a 25 cent increment to 50 cent increment. If the user chose to use 10 cents, 50 cents or one dollar, QT would adjust the gridlines to use those numbers as the difference between adjacient prices.

    (2) this scale type would fix the current price to the centerline...
The most current price would stay centered in the chart window when new data came in - All price bars, gridlines and y-axis prices would repaint around the centerline....

I'm hoping that you could find a way to incorporate the fixed increment (part 1) for the vertical scale prices, even if the second half of the suggestion (part 2 above) doesn't appeal to you. Part 2 might be too CPU intensive because the entire chart would need to repaint too often...

This software sounds great. Is there a "free data feed" to quotetracker; such as Yahoo ect.. I use Interactive brokers to place trades but more interested in using this program to keep a list of stocks 500 & notify me when they reach certain criteria. I dont want to have to pay for a data feed such as esignal , IQ..All I need are basic level 1 quotes. Any suggestions. thanks.

I use Wealth Lab , and they have a choose of free data feeds. I use Yahoo for that program..

  3. Doug,

We have a Yahoo configuration available upon request (support@quotetracker.com). However thats delayed quotes. Just FYI

Money.net can handle auto refresh of that many symbols (you would use the "for Proxies" option instead of streaming). and would be $12.95 per month + exchange fees.

  4. sharpshorts - I understand what you are saying. However, with either the existing Sliding or Absolute scale options, the increments on the Y axis should already stay constant unless you resize the chart. That is the only way the increments would change.

If you have the increments change without chart resizing and without changing the scale, please let me know exactly how to recreate. Maybe email me your data and configuration files and indicate which symbol to open a chart for and scroll.

  5. OK thanks Jerry.
I do like the current scale options.
I'll continue using the sliding scale and make sure I wasn't mistaken about the changing increments...

  6. Jerry...another couple questions.

Why is there a delay in the price transfer to the chart with my IB data? ie. I put my TWS quote right next to the QT chart and it lags by 1/4 to 1/2 a second. I set the chart update to .01 seconds. I've tried different days, times and even my esignal feed. Still delayed. I am using Tahoe charts as well and no lag at all.

Does only the free QT version do this? Any others see this problem?

Another question. I want to use my IB feed for data. What is the least expensive option to get realtime backfill for equities & e-minis including the exchange fees. So many of the listed companies on your site make this complicated when you factor in e-mini's and exchange fees. The $20 price on IQ Feed jumps dramatically with that request. I was told $58 with exchange fees.

    BTW....new scaling works great.

    Thanks

  7. IQFeed is the cheapest - you are missing the point about their pricing - if you just need backfill, you do NOT have to subscribe to the real-time futures. Thats only needed if you want real-time Level I quotes.

There should not be any delay - is the delay you are seeing for the charts only or quotes as well?

Do you see a large # below the bandwidth number (top left of the portfolio window next to the START/STOP button)

email support@quotetracker.com with the replies and URL to this post.

  9. Jerry.....my bwdth number fluctuates between 200 and 1200. The number below this fluctuates from 50-300 to just a plain dash with no number. I would think the price transfer would be instantanious like my Tahoe chart using the same feed. Problem must be on my end but I thought if that were the case--- they both would lag. The lag is on the QT chart only and not the quote box. I should probably remove the QT program and do a clean install and start over.

As far as pricing for IQFeed backfill...how much is it and what do I ask for? If my TWS goes down, can I still refresh the chart and get a live up to the second quote or are you talking about a delayed backfill. I want to turn my computer on in the morning and load QT and have a fully updated chart for e-minis.

easyrider....What bwdth numbers are you getting? What is your chart refresh interval set at and are you using the paid version? (I will obviously buy this program to get the increased backfill data but I'm still testing her out)

    Thanks again

  10. With a basic subscription to IQFeed you get the emini backfill
for free. My CC is charged about $25 after whatever taxes they
add in. So, with IB data at $10 if you trade less than $30 in
commissions each month, $5 a month for QT and $25 a month for
IQFeed, you get the whole ball of wax for either $30 or $40 if you don't
trade more than $30 in commissions with IB. But you probably
    already know that... :p

P.S. The emini backfill from IQFeed is RT and up to the minute and
even tick-by-tick if you ask for the file from the Medveds. The backfill
    is NOT delayed.

Hopefully this has answered your question. (From a long time user)...

P.S.S. IF your computer crashes, yes you can get up to the second
backfill from IQFeed with the tick-by-tick. Othewise it is a 15-second
backfill which isn't too bad either if you are not a super-scalper... :)
