  1. You are using wrong symbols. Assuming you are looking for the futures quotes, the symbols are:
    GLOBEX:mad:6JM4
    GLOBEX:mad:6EM4

May also be the following for the minies:
    GLOBEX:mad:J7M4
    GLOBEX:mad:E7M4

In general, just enter the symbols into TWS, then look at the end of the DESCRIPTION column to see what the local symbol is, which is what you need to enter into QT.

IB does not currently provide backfill data, though that may change in the future. You can use one of the other datafeeds for backfill including
    eSignal

    IQFeed

    Money.net

    Prophet.net

all of which provide multiday backfill data for futures. Yes, you can of course make sure QT is running all the time to get the data

Yes, open one chart, then right click on it and select New Chart... from the popup menu

  2. jerry,

you are awesome!! you just created another *FAN* of Medved QT!

Well, I got a few lingering questions. So, I used Globex:mad:6Jm4 and 6eM4, which works fine. those are the full yen/euro futures contract.

however, on the 6jm4, it only displays up to 4 decimal places. which is not sufficient. since the yen trades out to SIX decimal places. I was looking for a setting to change the # of decimals displayed and I couldn't.

And one other thing, i can't get the euro or yen daily chart when i type in 6jm4. it said no data available. hmm..

    u r awesome. quicker than a speeding bullet! :)
    thanks!

  3. go to OPTIONS/Edit Preferences menu, MISC tab - top right.

Are you referring to the historical charts? those are independent of the quote source (IB) so they use different symbols. I believe the ones you are looking for are:
    EC0406 and JY0406

    Look them up at

  6. jerry,

i got another one for ya. can we adjust the candlestick spacing? Like expand and contract? Something that Tradestation and eSignal can do. +/- spacing.

it will just be more pleasing on the eyes. Also, there doesn't seem to be scroll bars for the window? Or is it b/c I haven't collected enough data yet...

And the the window that appears when one put ove a candlestick seems to NOT display the high/lo of that bar. But rather over a bigger time period(possibly the entire day...)

In the daily chart, is there a way to have the same window pops up when you move to each bar so you know the OHLC of each bar/day?

    thanks!

  7. in general, you can either adjust the candle width or amount of data visible on the chart, but not both, since there is only so many ways you can fit X bars into a given area. In QT, we let you specify the time frame and QT will adjust the candle sizes based on that time frame and the size of the chart window. If you make the chart window bigger, the candles will be bigger. If you reduce the time period of the chart, the candles will also be bigger. And, of course if you increase the frequency, that will increase the candle sizes since there will be fewer candles to display for the given time period

Scroll bars - you can enable them on OPTIONS/Edit Preferences/Charts Misc screen

as for the window that pops up that displays info, that is the tooltip and that shows the general quote info, not bar specific. If you are looking for bar specific stuff, you want to turn on cross hairs and turn off tooltip (all on the above mentioned configuration screen)

You can also hold down the SHIFT key while on the chart to temporarily turn on cross-hair (ALT key for free floating cross-hair)

  8. jerry,

my man. i got another question. I'm trying to display NKD(Nikkei 225 futures Dollar version that's traded on globex). I see the quotes on IB. But I can't see them on QT.

    I put GLOBEX:mad:NKDM4

but the bid/ask/last are all 0.

what is the correct symbology for the NKD? or you don't support it?

    thanks!

  9. what you have is correct. I just entered:
    GLOBEX:mad:NKDM4

    and it worked here.

If its still not working for you, email us and indicate:

    QT Version
    TWS Version
    # of symbols you are tracking

And of course the problem in question so support will know what its in reference to
