@BeautifulStranger, just because reading levels are low does not mean they are but also low in Europe, in fact they certainly are.

While the average European is far more knowledgeable about the world than their Amercian social tier counterpart, the average pleb does not read enough there either to insulate their minds from corrupting influence.

Those who don't read are.. Sorry @wildchild, it involves reading something.

"Plato's Allegory of the Cave, an ancient metaphor about human perception and the pursuit of truth. In this allegory, Plato imagines prisoners chained inside a dark cave, only able to see shadows cast on the wall in front of them. The shadows are created by objects moving behind them, but the prisoners, unaware of the outside world, believe these shadows to be the only reality.

Here's how the allegory breaks down:

    1. The Prisoners: Represent people who are unaware of the true nature of reality. They are metaphorically "chained" by their own limited perceptions and beliefs, seeing only what is immediately in front of them without questioning its origins or broader significance.

    2. The Shadows: Symbolize illusions or partial truths. The shadows stand in for the superficial aspects of the world that people often take at face value—beliefs, assumptions, or the media they consume—without examining what's behind them.

    3. The Escape and the Sunlight: In the allegory, one prisoner escapes and slowly adjusts to the world outside, eventually seeing the sun. The journey into the sunlight represents the path to knowledge, understanding, and enlightenment. For Plato, this journey is challenging and even painful, as the truth can be unsettling or hard to accept after a life spent in shadow.

    4. Returning to the Cave: When the freed prisoner returns to the cave to share what they've seen, the remaining prisoners reject his insights and cling to the familiar shadows. This part highlights the resistance people often have to new perspectives that challenge their worldview, even if those perspectives offer a fuller understanding of reality.

Plato’s Allegory of the Cave explores human ignorance, the limitations of perception, and the transformative nature of seeking truth. It illustrates how we can be “prisoners” to our own perspectives, seeing only "shadows" unless we make the effort to understand what lies beyond. Today, the allegory is still relevant in discussions about knowledge, misinformation, and the courage it takes to question accepted beliefs."

Of course you guys just make more shadow puppets and call that "doing my own research" . Deformed rabbit is my own favourite.

I'm at the little apartment above my forge (forgive the temporary projector) and I see on France 24 that what readers America has, are looking to move. Of course they always Google but might be more this time.

@wildchild is unusually quiet, he must be getting a new portrait. The artist will fill in Trump standing over him with hands on shoulders.

I see it as a density layer experiment where a layer is poison, always been there, and Trump stirred it. At least when I feel hopeful..

  9. Some of the books I've read when I was young led me astray. The quality of what I read and having some sort of healthy frame of reference could have helped my easily impressionable young mind. Being brought up by a mostly absent single parent did not help matters in this regard.
