"The State of Massachusetts is migrating to open-source software for all government documents. The move will come at the expense of Microsoft and other proprietary technology providers." Not that his is anything really new: Mass. has been evaluating and advocating the switch from proprietary vendors for some time ...... The adoption of the OpenDocument format - which is an XML based open document specification - is in my opinion, the first of many such announcements by government entities in the US. FYI: we have been using this for over two years and have been very pleased with the results - as well as the cost savings and performance of OpenOffice on Linux.
