Dawn Wooten, a licensed practical nurse employed by the center who's represented by the Government Accountability Project and Project South, stated in a complaint that while some women may have required a hysterectomy, "everybody's uterus cannot be that bad." The Government Accountability Project provides representation for whistleblowers and Project South is a social justice organization. The complaint is also signed by several immigrant advocacy organizations: Georgia Detention Watch, Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights and South Georgia Immigrant Support Network. -------------------------- If you take a look at the previous three years-- the organizations making these claims (Georgia Detention Watch, Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights and South Georgia Immigrant Support Network) have a history of making questionable and exaggerated claims that turn out to have no basis in fact.

Wooten says she was demoted and reprimanded when she spoke out about these practices, according to an interview with the Intercept. The Intercept also reported that Wooten’s account was “bolstered by interviews with another current member of Irwin’s medical staff – who asked not to be named for fear of retaliation – and four people currently or recently detained there”.
Wooten calls a gynecologist who works outside the facility "the uterus collector." "Everybody he sees has a hysterectomy — just about everybody," Wooten said. "He's even taken out the wrong ovary on a young lady." In July, LaSalle’s CEO Rodney Cooper submitted a letter to Congress outlining LaSalle’s response to Covid-19, claiming that the company was being “diligent in operating our facilities at the highest level,” and stating that no LaSalle detainees have “succumbed” to Covid-19.
