Opinions great or not, not one's own slanted version of historical events that we all lived through or can read about. Meanwhile the Ayatollah was a hard-liner populist, just like our new/old Prez-elect. What's the prob wingy?
A response full of sound and fury, yet there may be an idea buried in there somewhere; so, I'll try to be responsive: You say, "we all lived through it," yet except the OP, as he forthrightly stated; "or can read about it," except yourself it now appears. As I say, perhaps better if one seeks for himself the evidence, which is readily accessible, both against and in support of my claim. In the meantime, and at OP's request to me, perish the thought that we have my reasons and refs to relevant historical events to go along with your requirement of us for boolean opinions only. And yes, the ginger is not a great man in precisely the same way -- unprincipled, cloaked in religion, favoring pragmatism and arguments from emotion.
He said, he does not live in the U.S. Is the planet not sufficient to have lived through it? As for myself I was around back then and actually had dealings in Shah's Iran that all ended, when he wound up in NYC/Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Same place one of my parents died at. So yes I know of what I speak. But getting back to the original question, greatness (or not) is a matter of opinion - nothing else. Ginger? What about MaryAnn she was hotter lol
Technically, it's a "day of mourning", not a holiday. Which means you slackers don't get a free day off again on January 9th next year.
I was 24 when Reagan defeated Carter and I felt the reason that happened is most Americans wanted someone in the White House who was a little tougher, more hawkish when it came to dealing with the Russians or Chinese or any other country that posed a threat to America. The Cold War was still very much going on at the time. I was born and raised in Georgia and was happy to see a local guy become President but it was probably best he didn't serve a second term.
Damn boy, you a really old fart. Anyway, it would have been a difficult period for any politician, red or blue. You had not only the commies to deal with on top of the looming recession due to Volcker's interest hikes. Then you had these crazy mullahs in the Middle East acting like there was no tomorrow. I would have pulled out a few hairs of my own.
No, OP's relevant statement was: 'All I can tell is from recent interviews,' [did not live through it], and his request to me for more info. Anyway, this is not germane to the core question about great men, although your red-herring here is well-noted, a limp-wristed distraction technique. We're relieved that you've assured us that you "know of what you speak;" otherwise, a reader might well have gained the impression that you don't know what you're talking about, notwithstanding your bona fides as your father's #2 in the (BK) Iran Pistachio & Rug Import Co. Your assertion that "greatness (or not) is a matter of opinion" is a byproduct of Relativism, itself a superset of the pragmatism that made Carter, and the ginger, not great men. Relativism prevailed in tenured academic halls in the 1970s and remains fashionable due to leading to an inability to make values or ethics judgments -- anything goes. Rather, it seems to me the core of what makes a man great are virtues like justice, courage, generosity, truthfulness, good temper, amiability, laudable ambition, temperance, magnanimity, earned pride, contrition, righteous indignation, each of which can be described on a continuum, and we can discern where Carter or any public leader is strong and where he falls short. In conversation with you, I don't want to feel like I'm usain bolt at the special olympics; thus, I must take my leave. In the meantime, perhaps we could encourage you to run another lap for the crowd, this time without spasticity.
Lol you're the one running away creampuff. And it was Cement I was exporting to Iran ...... and Iraq from Poland and West Germany. Bandar Shahpur renamed to fellow wingy Bandar-e Imam Khomeyni
Don't mistake running around dog poo on the beach for running away, ayatollah. You exported cement, a product where the transport cost is more than the product itself...from a relatively higher-cost, lower-producing country...to a country that is the worldwide fifth largest producer of that product...and for some reason you BK'd your father's import-export company. I know, I know, it was different in 1979; cement was lighter then.
