I prefer constant volume charts over tick charts because Globex keeps tweaking how ticks are aggregated; therefore constant volume charts are more consistant. fyi: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60786
Bolter, Try using 1000v in esignal if you want a constant volume bar of 1000 contracts. it works for me. Runningbear
Hey thanks Runningbear. You've inspipred me to try again. How do you find the constant volume chart? bolter
HI, I have been following along and am clear on most of what you are doing. I am not clear on how you got your volume numbers for Monday? I have read everything here. I will admit that i am following along without real MP charting I get the real numbers and then I look at intraday histogram which is very close. For example todays numbers I have for MP are: VAH 1269.00 POC 1266.00 VAL 1264.00 the chart I have been looking at I will post below. You will see that the numbers are very close. http://charts.dacharts.com/2006-02-14/AAA_Test.png
Bolter, My apologies. Below is an image of the Price/Vol standard chart that comes with eSignal using RTH template for yesterday's action. If you go to File-New-Standard Chart-Price/Volume... you will get this chart. If you compare it to the Volumeprofile EFS, the volume reported at each level or the peak levels shown can sometimes be slightly different. I believe this was supposed to have been built on tick data. As for exporting data from 1 min charts in eSignal... there can be alot of prices even in 1 min bars... and vol is shown in per min bar format. How do you accurately format it into how much vol traded at each price level? Do you have some special setting or efs inserted into the chart to do that? Many thanks!
I just found another efs on the eSignal site that looks relevant. No I haven't validated the output yet, however you might want to give it a try. http://forum.esignalcentral.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17157
Student, Now I get it. You did describe it exactly correctly it's just that I'm such a putz I didn't realise the Standard charts in eSignal had these options. I always use advanced charts. Thanks for enlightening me. I will experiement with this and see how well it works. Initially I used tick data but it was some damn cumbersome that settled for 1 minute data, and the assumption that volume was evenly distributed across prices within the 1 minute bar. I found that it made very little difference to the results and saved a whole bunch of time. Bearing in mind that I am using VP for the bigger picture and therefore the minutia adds little value. I always allows +/- a few ticks on my levels anyway. Thanks for your input.
Here's my levels for today guys: ES 1268.25 1268.00 1263.50 YM 10950 10930 10895 ER2 715.40 713.00 710.40 The key S/R levels have not changed appreciably from yesterday for all markets. Once again we have the crictial battleline for the ES in the 1268.00-1268.75 region, where we have S/R, POC and UVA. We look like opening right there. I'm taking my lovely wife out for dinner tonight (Valentines Day), so you blokes are on your own. I'll check in later. Fare thee well.
Lotus 7 what datafeed are you using with Ensign? The difference with our levels today are due to a different POC. I have 31,719 lots @ 1268 and 30,956 @ 1266. Touch and go but 1268 is the volume peak (POC). Is your VP study on Ensign using tick data - if so it could be more accurate. bolter
