Market orders near the open on nasdaq stocks

Discussion in 'Order Execution' started by hoodooman, Feb 9, 2004.

  1. I keep missing my trade with limit orders on nasdaq stocks using IB best bid/offer. I'm wondering how risky it now is to place market orders on these trades which are, for me are always high volume nasdaq stocks. If I decide to use market orders would I be any better off using one of the ecn's and in that case which ecn would give me the best fills. I'm a scalper and I need to get in quickly to be profitable. All replies will be greatly appreciated.

There was a time I spend a lot of time scalping similar stocks with IB. I found their SMART market routing to be the best option and my slip averaged *better* than by backtesting so I was quite pleased.

Thanks for the reply. Were you scalping with market orders?

My style at that time dictated market orders, yes.

Once again, I thank you for the reply. Will try it again tomorrow near the open.
