Only forex and CFD brokers might do this, it is not possible in a regulated market to cause spikes that didn't actually happen.
An OTC market isn't regulated like the stock or futures market. Also, a reputable broker like IB will never even think about creating a spike to take your stop, not even in an OTC market.
OTC market includes stocks. OTC is a term that describes the type of the market; it can be for a variety of instruments. And that's the problem and that's why I say it's not entirely correct to say a broker is not interested in your stops. IB is not a reputable broker. LOL It's surprisingly honest in its retail forex segment as one of the few ECN brokers though but I cannot say the same thing in executing trades for stocks.
And even the OTC stock market isn't as well regulated as the regular stock market. which is obviously what i ment ... There is no difference in safety between FX, CFDs or any other OTC product, including OTC stocks. If you trade OTC you have to trust your broker 100%, they can fuck you in 101 different ways. Going from extreme spreads, price spikes, re quotes, ... If you think IB isn't a reputable broker then you are crazy and you shouldn't trust your money to anyone except the good old sock under your bed. IB isn't perfect, but no broker is.
The title is misleading. The market is just an exchange and not a person. It consist of crooks, manipulators, thief, snake oil sellers, speculators, investors and traders and all the above. I would believe that market experience does count. Each stock has its own peculiar behavior due to the composition of its players. Experience chart readers can sense which stock should be handled with caution.
%% That pattern can be a good thing,JSOP. WHO wants a broker/market maker/specialist that does not look for stops??. Slippage can be positive also with the right market order[not all the time\ but enough to profit fine].
%% Exactly + same with ETFs. Just goes to prove feelings are frequently wrong. Trend study hard work can pay off well; but trends are not predictions.....................................................................................
Exactly what I have been saying. OTC stock markets is also no better. Brokers and all other internalizers who take the other side of the transactions from retail traders can take advantage of the retail traders just the same.
