Market Delta - Transitioning to the New Platform

  1. Alann,

I'm not sure what you mean...i have many charts open and all fully visual at the same time, including a footprint chart.

    Kind regards,
    MK

    Bolter,

If you don't mind answering another question.

Do you find delta as useful for the US market or is it more useful for the Asia market (reason I asked is that you seem to be attaching charts for instruments that are traded in Asia). Thanks.

    MidKnight,

When I created a chart window comprising one candlestick and one footprint chart, the candlestick chart did not have an option to minimise, full screen etc. The only symbol that appears in the top right hand corner is the X box. I, also, found that resizing of some charts wasn't possible.

I've used and still use other charting packages, with little difficulty. I have a feeling that this new version MD will lose more subscribers than it gains, certainly in the near term anyway.

  4. A man after my own heart!!
Sadly, it did not take long to realise that the new MD and I were on divergence.
I trade solely to make money. Sure I have an interest in the markets, but it is more of a hobby, but my hobbies do not include software or anything else that distracts me from my task and so I will say it again ..." this thread has put me in my place"

Thanks 5P for the mention on X -Trader. I have a broker keen provide me with the tt package. In this moment still I prefer to run 2 of everything.... just old fashioned I guess and while we are on that subject, I prefer simplicity. The less there is, then the less there is to go wrong or worse still, act in conflict.
A couple of years ago my car ( german V8) shut down in traffic. It needed to be transported back to the dealer who gave me an explanation. The guy who worked on my car told me it was something to do with the secondary internal lighting. The purpose of the car IMO is to transport me from A to B and neither A or B includes unsheduled stops at the dealers.

And so. Am I pissed off ...yes.
Do I feel sorry for Trevor ...yes.
What am I going to do ... take this as an opportunity to simplify every little aspect of my trading even if iy means time and money right now.
I have said it before, but IMO charting is <20% of trading but it is 100% of a software vendors world, just the same as books about trading are 100% of someone elses world and I need constant reminding of this so that I am not drawn 100% into someone space.
Someone earlier on in this thread quoted me the formula for making money ... I think he/she was quoting Van T 101.... OK Einstein, take the ES 100 lots long today on those ratios when you see your favourite signal.
But take heart because you reminded me of where my place should be and it is only because I feel for Trevor that I am here at all.
What I should do is ask the questions and if the answers do not fit, then I should move on ... and that is exactly what I am going to do.

    hi alan,

I don't have a problem with this. I read somewhere that you can "lock" charts, or layouts or something. This may or may not be your problem.

    all the best,

Just for the record, I did say I was very comfortable with the old version. However, I am quite excited by the new version because it will allow me to do everything on one platform. And it certainly is feature rich. Despite some unwaranted teething problems I have confidence that Trevor/Linnsoft will get us beyond these initial hiccups. These guys have alot staked on a successful outcome.

So I for one intend to solider on.

    Bolter,

    Thanks for the info.

Getting to grips with the new MD is a very steep learning curve, despite some good manuals on the RT Investor site. It may well prove to be a great success. I just feel that some modification to the original MD would have been sufficient.

Only time will tell whether Trevor's decision is right or not.

    billp,
I'd really need to study the data to form an opinion. Besides opinions are like assholes - everybodys got one.

I am very comfortable with the algorithm employed by the old version. Also I would consider it important to be able to regression test the new version with the old. If they elect to change the algorithm this will not be possible - which we create a whole lot of retesting for me.

I live in Asia bill - hence the charts. But I also trade Europe and the US.

There are several things that I've observed that impact how useful delta is on a particular market.

    1. If the futures market is subordinate to the cash market and there is sufficient liquidty for arbs to be active then market delta is less useful. eg: currencies, some equity indexes (Dow). So for example, if the cash market trades 63 but the future is trading at 60 - the futures market is going to 63 regardless of what goes across the tape.

    2. Order matching system - some markets are less orderly than they should be because of idiosyncracies in their matching software - eg: HSI, DAX. Market delta is less useful is these instances.

    3. Liquidity - The more liquid a market the better delta information you get. Thinner markets are more susceptible to the vagaries of the locals and commercials - so delta tends to be of less value, eg: HSI

    4. Data - how the data is "packaged" at the exchange/data vendor will impact how it looks on market delta.

    That's my thoughts anyway.

    Bolter,

Thanks a lot. IMHO, I prefer the old logic 'coz the total volume (in bid*ask) is reflected which is important to me.

    Guys,

Pleased to report that I have resolved the charting problems. I have to admit to user error here.

However, something that concerns me is that the candlestick and footprint charts were out of sync earlier, on the ER2 (Russell).

Can anybody suggest a reason why I should have a session high on the c'stick, at 14.38 (UK time) of 732 but, a high on the Footprint of 733.4. Candlestick set up for 110 tick; Footprint on 5 min tf.
