Market data connection lost

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by PhuongEU, Oct 3, 2020.

  1. 24 charts open? My guess is that this is too much for TWS.
And in each chart you have three SMA lines on display? You might be getting very close to the maximum number of data lines (100) that IB allows.

  2. This may sound stupid, but when I have data connectivity issues I notice the following:

    1) I *CAN* connect to the Website without problems
    2) I *MAY* have authentication problems (2FA does not get the request).
    3) I *MAY* be able to log into TWS but see no data

The normal way this resolves (90% of the time):
    1) Make sure you have updated the latest IBKR App if you are using 2FA on your phone.
    2) Reboot your phone
    3) Reboot your computer
    4) Now try to log in to TWS.

It's very weird that I can succeed enough in authenticating to get TWS to load up and show me some/most of my positions, but no live data. However, when I do this, it shows everything.

Yes, it is a bit unnerving to suddenly wonder where half your portfolio went :p

Note: Most of the time I see this problem, it's a Monday. And most of the time, it's at US Market Open.

    HobbyTrading,

That must be the problem. I just couldn't figure it out.
Can't really imagine anyone trading with less than 20 stock to follow.
Thank you all so much for the input!

I run TWS along with several other broker platforms - many charts opened in IB at once. My P.C. & Internet is a dog compared to yours & have no problems.

If your running AV/Malware try disabling. Make sure your Router is not enable to do SPI (stateful packet inspection).

Last is try prioritizing TWS to a higher level in task mgr.

    Dear friends and traders,

As promised, I would keep you all updated about the issue "Market data connection lost/re-established". As I tried to rule out more and more things, I found out that the problem must be lying somewhere in the IBKR system. At some point we thought it might be the many charts, well, it's not the charts, cause when I had none charts left, the problem still persists.

Connection ISP/Ping/Hard and Soft-ware/Hard-wired Cable,... All GOOD and cross tested with several computers, and even cross tested on several different ISP (at lockdown around Christmas time)
This led me to conclude there must be some problem related to the 2 accounts. Before I never had this problem, cause I never had 2 account (1IBKRpro and 1 Introducing Broker IBKRpro) running simultaneously. But thinking back, I began to have the issue "market data connection lost/connection re-established" when I start trading the 2 account simultaneously, during feb/march 2020 crash.

NOW, since the Brexit migration, there has been some kind of reset of the 2 accounts that I have with IBKR pro and the Introducing Brokers account of Interactive Brokers, and the issue "Market data connection lost/re-established" is over.

I think the problem was within data connection/subscription feed, cause I have the 2 accounts linked to one another (Logging in with one password) but before linking I think I must have left some futures lines open (ES, CL, GC,...), and as result of that, some data request at the IntroducingBrAcc, while I don't need datafeed subscription on this IntroducingBrAcc since I already have market data subscription on my IBKRpro account. I've come to noticed this, cause I sometimes, still, get pop-ups of about "futures about to expire...", while I don't have any lines requesting for any future contracts what so ever.

Just to be completely sure of the issue/problem, I will permanently close my Introducing Brokers Account (LYNX by IBKR), and hope the issue will never come back again. To be honest, I was very close to move everything to another broker.

Hope this gives you friends and traders a better understanding of the matter.
Once again, I would like to thank all you friends and traders for your insight, time and effort to help me solve this issue.

    Regards,

    P. Europe

After I have permanently closed the Introducing Broker IBKR account, I will keep you all updated. I have high hopes, the problem will stay away.

Should have seen this a long time ago, cause having the same problem, on several other computers/laptops, with several other ISP's cross tested, must have given me a big clue already.

But once again, THANK YOU ALL :)

    to be continued...

I am still having the same data disconnect issues. I am not seeing the same issues on the back up platform or with my other computer or phone at the same time these are occurring with IB. This and a few other issues in the past year have me starting to look for another main futures platform.
