Margin: Futures & Futures Options

  1. Ok. I would just like to throw out a question for those of you who are experienced in futures & futures options SPAN requirements.

At this point I'm too cheap to spend the money on a SPAN calculator....

Basically, I'm just trying to figure out what the SPAN Margin requirements would be on say:

    Short 1 ER2 SEPTEMBER 2007 Contract
Short 1 ER2 SEPTEMBER 2007 OPTION STRIKE @ 900 (deep in the money)

Or likewise, what's the SPAN for SELLING a Deep in the money Strangle on Futures options?

    Thanks!

  2. If you have an IB account, sign up for a Simulated Account and put on that position to see what your margin would be. It's FREE.

If you don't have an IB account. You can still go to the IB website and log in through the Demo Account. The prices aren't live, but you can replicate the same position that you want - Sell the futures and and sell a Deep ITM option.

The numbers aren't 100% accurate, but it does give you a good idea what the margin would be.

    Hope this helps.
