March Futures & Options Expiration

Discussion in 'Options' started by daytrader85, Feb 20, 2007.

  1. Do both the ES Futures Contract and the ES Options contract both expire at the same time?

Let's say I'm short the ES Futures and Long a March ES Option, do the both expire at 3:15 on March 16th?

    Thanks

Yes, quarterly options settle into cash. Only the serial options settle into futures cotnracts.

  3. Watchout out for those qrtly ES options. I believe they expire @ the open on friday @ 9:30 am est. Effectively making the 4:15pm on thurs the last real chance at liquidity.

  4. This is the same as the futures contract. From CME's brochure on E-Mini products:

    Last Day Of Trading:
Futures- Trading can occur up to 8:30 a.m. (Chicago time) on the third Friday of the contract month.

Options- Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec same as the underlying futures contract. Other eight months: the third Friday of the contract month.

So, it's not at close on the 16th, but at the opening print. Thanks, cdn.

Actually, it's the "Special Opening Quotation" which can differ a bit from cash. Here's their explanation:
