He's pro-life, anti gay marriage, NRA endorsed, voted for Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, pro-coal....

    He'd win in a blink.

Come on over Manchin, let's flip the Senate over to the Republicans. Biden's done already, honorable men must keep with honorable men.

  3. Yep. And I did not rule it out. I said he is doing pretty well right where he is and does not feel all the need for him to change that media and pundits are imposing on him. But as I said, they do not want to get too nasty with him by trying to punish him. That's where the "not ruling out" would definitely come in.

Bernie is an independent and caucuses with the dems. Angus King, the Senator from Maine is an independent and caucuses with the dems. Even if Manchin left the dem party, it is not clear to me why he would not just become and independent and caucus with whichever party he chooses to caucus with. Caucusing with a party adds your seat to the majority or minority count in the senate even though you are an independent.

  4. Sure, the dems just need to reframe how they look at Manchin.

Joe Manchin is actually a "trans-party" Senator who is clearly a republican but chooses to self-identify as a democrat. They should be naming a bathroom after him at the Capitol instead of dissing him.

Not sure how that would play back in W.V. though. Strike that thought.

The truth is Manchin is done. He won in 2018, on a democrat wave, by 3 points. He ain’t doing that again. This is his last rodeo whether he knows it or not.

** I should add in 2018 democrats still had a 9 point registration advantage in WV.

He isnt working with democrats now and is destroying Bidens presidency.Every democrat in office and who has a big name needs to start publicly saying Manchin should join republicans every single day and blame him daily for Biden not being able to keep his promises, same with Sinima.

I agree he won't win a GOP primary or even as an independent.Biden needs to make it clear to Manchin that if you are going to cause me to lose re-election I will do the same to you.Biden should also promise to support a primary challenger against Manchin .If Biden actually fought back against Manchin and Senima I and other democrats would respect him more.I will not be voting for Biden in 2024 because he is so fucking weak.

  9. Joe's political career is neither here nor there for me. If West Virginians want to roll him out and put a real republican in, that is more than fine.

Having said that, recent polls- showed that three quarters of west virginians have a favorable view of Joe and see him as a bipartisan senator trying to do what is best for their state. So if Manchin wants to try to survive off into the future he has plenty of cards to play- as of today. The future will be whatever it is and whatever scandals it will or will not bring.

Manchin is definitely working with democrats. He is confirming nominations and judges. He voted for Biden’s relief package - and he made very clear he did not want to at the time. He moved a bipartisan infrastructure bill that included democrat priorities like broadband and reconnecting neighborhoods disrupted by highways (this is a big, big minority issue and will help with some issues of access to supermarkets and economic growth that people don’t realize).

Manchin is Manchin though. He likes coal and doesn’t like direct relief payments. He has to be worked with on these issues.

None of those “solutions” you have posed will help anything. Browbeating anyone never helps. What helps in negotiations is listening to people, not telling them and certainly not threatening them.
