  1. Great Journal.

You're proving the naysayers wrong and then some. Just let the negative talk flow off your back like water of a duck.

Looks like you're really on top of your game.

    Cool

  2. Pennytrader: charts are very graphic... couple ?'s.
    1. What software are you using?
    2. What screening technicals are you using to filter out your potentials?

THanks in advance for your reply.

Congrats. Looks like your straddle is in the money. Right now YHOO is trading 29.47 after hrs. If it opens this way tomorrow, your puts are worth $3. Cool 66% on your investment.

Way to go PennyTrader! I'm rooting for you. I wish I could trade as successfully as you.

I bet most of the naysayers are New Yorkers. Where are you from?

    Keep up the good work.

A question about your straddle. What would you have done if YHOO didn't move much after it announced earnings? Would you have closed the position at the open?

StockyIrishman, I could be mistaken, but the software is Ensign Windows, right? That's the logo anyhow...

Penny, good call on YHOO. It looks like it'll move.

  6. StockyIrishman,

The software is Ensign, the data feed is Esignal. The design, indicators, and signals are customized by myself. The colorful background reminds me not to go long when it is dark brown, but sometimes I forgot to pay attention :-(

Most time, I play the top 50 NASDAQ movers/shakers, the stocks most traders play - easy to move up or down. For swing trading stocks, I use stockfecther.com to screen. I've several filters, I'll do a scan tonight and see if it can generate some plays (based on different filters).

  7. Palomino,

I was originally from China. I've lived in the US for exactly 20 years by this May. I lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, and moved to NC in 1997 - that's when I started to trade stocks.

If YHOO doesn't move at all after earnings, (1) I would sell the puts immediately and add more premium-less calls. Because so many bet it would tank, a lot short shares and covered calls were sold. If the price holds after not so good earnings, means bad news has been priced in, it won't stay at that level, it would go up. (2) However, I must use chart to determine. YHOO's technicals were terrible before tonight, it had a double top, indicators were pointing down. I debated if I should put 2/3 puts and 1/3 calls in the straddle, but in the end, I bought 1/2 of each, I decided to go short when the earnings is out in AH, so to make up the loss on the calls.
