My step father and I had a conversation like this. I asked him why he was wearing a mask in the garden. He said "because of all of the COVID in the atmosphere." I stared at him with a blank explanation, blinking twice. "What?" I asked softly. "The COVID in the atmosphere." He repeated, and I realized he was serious as he kept digging. "You've got to be kidding." "No, really. Its on the news."
To be fair... I have not seen any news claiming COVID is floating around in our atmosphere haha.. I think when people says "news" they really mean social media
Most smart people take it to mean a "COVID cloud" that lingers a few mins/hrs until someone else walks by/runs by thinking it's safe because "no one else is around"

First off this: That's BS. I think for myself ok. Saying sh*t like this really, really weakens any credible debate you may put forth. Dumb. (case closed on that) Next: Dust does blow a long distance. But just as Wallet pointed out... when he rides his mower without a mask... what happens? I believe he said all that dust he takes in comes out in brown luggies. BINGO!!! Guess what... that particular dust doesn't travel. It falls to the ground. Does the luggie dry up eventually and perhaps give the dust a new chance on life to get airborne like a Kansas song or a Bob Dylan song? Probably, but this dust analogy you brought up makes my point perfectly. The stuff is swimming in the saliva. Its not that the mask prohibits its passage beyond the mask, its that the mask arrests the medium carrying it. Those articles you posted ALL said that. Can the mask dry or can a person get it on their hands touching the mask? Sure. Seems reasonable if the stuff lives for awhile. Point is, it leaves the infected person via their saliva. I suppose like Aids does through blood or other fluids. Does Aids get airborne? I mean when it first came out idiots thought that, they wouldn't enter a room with someone who had it. They were wrong. Case closed on that. Lastly... dude... you are arguing with yourself. On the one hand you drew me into this whole one on one back and forward by commenting on the cat cutting my grass on the zero-turn, saying "why is it stupid for him to wear a mask"?
