So the officer shouldn't be the "next"? Did you get your initial information from the same news source as L. James?

    Easy answer...

You become a young adult when you're age is no longer in the teens (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19). Simply, as soon as you become 20 as in "twenty" although some places define it as 21 when you're no longer a teenager.

Regardless, most people can not tell the age of a person that's 16 year old from a 21 year old if the person is big and has adult like features.
    • I remember in high school this teenager on my brother's volleyball team...he was growing a full beard but he was only 17 years old. Coaches on the opposing team often asked questions about the age of that kid.
Simply, whenever we needed to go to the liquor store and buy beer...we would get him to buy the beer with his fake ID because his beard helped conceal his age. Note...we were living in Kentucky at that time where my old man was stationed in the military. Growing a full beard as a high school 17 year old...gave you a lot of privileges.

Teenage girls are the worst as in they can just put their make up on the right way and look like a young women. Seriously, how many times have you heard a news story about some adult man having sex with a girl that's underage and then he gets arrested ?
    • His first line of defense is that...she told me she was 21 years old !!!
Often its because when the guy started the relationship, he thought the girl was much older and not because she was well developed...its because how she dressed and put on her makeup. :D

I remember my 2nd year in college...my roommates and I had a Keg party. We checked all IDs of every person before allowing them to enter the party. I remember these 5 particular girls that had IDs that said they were 22 year old and another ID that said they were a student.

They paid their $5 dollars each and enter the party of about 60 people. They had big tits and nice slim shapely asses...looked like college girls to me. One actually stated they were in a sorority.
    • I thought we all were going to get laid that night because the girls were overly flirtatious.
I remember my best friend telling me about 30mins later that we need to kick those girls out of the party before we get busted because the girls were not students and they were 15 year old high school students...he recognize one of them as the young sister of another teammate on the rowing team.
    • Obviously, drunken college guys aren't good at checking IDs :D
My point, in society, we do treat people differently when we assume in error that they are much older as in a young adult versus a teenager.

Here's to the Girl in Pink...

Saved by the Police Officer that has sharp shooter military training skills.

It was a good shoot, imo.

As Harvey Levin discussed, it would have been better for him to yell, "DROP THE KNIFE!!" instead.

People may not assume that you are talking to them when you yell general things like "get down." It'll probably just cause people to turn, to look and see who you are yelling at.

    Great observation...

Yelling to get down (he's warning others) seems a little odd in comparison to drop the knife (gives a warning to the knife holder).

The guy that kicked and stomp on the fallen girl right in front of the Police...that guy should be charged with assault in my opinion.

I didn't see the knife until she was swinging it, it's a tough ask given the time. She'd have gotten at least one jab in. FWIW, that looked like a steak knife w/a blunt point, but we can't expect cops to make those calls in such short amount of time

I believe that girl originally had the knife. He was defending with his feet.

The second girl picked up the knife, that was next to he girl that the guy was trying to stomp.

If you look at one of the cars, the car behind the girl in pink, it looks like a situation where one party 'rolled up' on the house.

My point was not to say he was "wrong" in what he said, or didn't say.

My point was that it would have been better to say, "DROP THE KNIFE!"

Who knows, the girl might not have realized, in her state of mind, that the police were there. Yelling "DROP THE KNIFE!" in command voice might have snapped her out of it; and maybe she'd be alive today.

And the cop had enough time to think, and yell, "get down!" ... more than once.

I didn't go into additional (to my previously stated) reasoning, but since we are here anyway:

Had the assailant lived, she wouldn't viably be able to be charged with disobeying an order, as the order was too vague, and non-specific.

But I suspect that order was meant for the lady in pink ... so the cop could get a cleaner shot. The lady in pink is lucky to have not been hit as well.

The lady in pink would still rather take a naturally occurring defensive posture, or run, rather than assume that the order was meant for her; and to also assume that the cop intended to shoot-to-put-down-the-attack; and to assume that the cop would be able to accomplish that.

all i'm saying is, the armchair quarterbacking I've been hearing for this case has been unreasonable. It was a split second decision and luckily he made one of the "better ones" under the circumstances.
