Back when I moved to North Carolina decades ago, the state Republican party was conservative aligned with the ideals of Reagan. Sure, it had a fringe bible-thumping contingent, but the Republican party at that time was nothing like the MAGA party of today. Today, the MAGA Republican party actively runs candidates in state-wide races who promote violence and nonsensical positions. A classic example is Michele Morrow who is running as a Republican for the State Superintendent of Public Instruction; she has regularly called for the arrest and execution of Democrats. GOP nominee to run North Carolina schools advocated pro-Trump military coup in January 6 video https://abc11.com/post/michele-morr...trump-military-coup-january-6-video/15168584/ NORTH CAROLINA -- Michele Morrow, the Republican nominee to run K-12 public education in North Carolina, filmed a video after attending the January 6 riot at the US Capitol urging then-President Donald Trump to put "the Constitution to the side" and use the military to stay in power. In a deleted Facebook livestream she filmed from her hotel room, Morrow called for mass arrests of anyone who helped certify the 2020 election. "And if the police won't do it and the Department of Justice won't do it, then he will have to enact the Insurrection Act," said Morrow. "In which case the Insurrection Act completely puts the Constitution to the side and says, now the military rules all." Morrow was at the Capitol as the attack occurred, according to public videos reviewed by CNN that show her in a restricted area on the northwest side of the Capitol. CNN has seen no evidence that Morrow entered the Capitol building that day or that she engaged in violence, and she was not charged with any crimes. In March's Republican primary, Morrow defeated the incumbent North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction. This job manages the state's $11 billion budget for K-12 public schools and helps set education priorities and implement curriculum standards. That same month, CNN's KFile reported Morrow had previously called for the public execution of Barack Obama and the death of Joe Biden and other prominent Democrats in comments on a since-deleted X account. "I prefer a Pay Per View of him in front of the firing squad," Morrow wrote in a since-deleted post from May 2020 about Obama. "I do not want to waste another dime on supporting his life. We could make some money back from televising his death." It's unclear when the Facebook video was deleted, but the candidate has purged past extremist posts since running for office in North Carolina. Morrow, a registered nurse and grassroots activist who homeschooled her children, previously lost a race for her local school board in Wake County, North Carolina, outside Raleigh. At the time, Morrow was endorsed by the state's Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the current GOP nominee for governor. Morrow declined to address her past comments in a comment provided to CNN by her campaign. "What North Carolina voters are concerned about is the education of our children," Morrow said. Robinson has also endorsed Morrow this year, saying at a recent event with her, "We're gonna make sure we do everything to get you in office." Morrow is running on a platform of supporting parental rights and opposing critical race theory. A poll after the primary in March showed Morrow in a tight race against Democrat Mo Green for school superintendent. Her website lists endorsements by "conservative school board member(s)" but remains light on changes she'd make if elected. Morrow has in the past called public schools "socialism centers" and "indoctrination centers." Extremist comments Morrow has always publicly maintained that she never committed violence at the Capitol. In an interview with the Charlotte Observer on January 9, 2021, Morrow denounced the violence that occurred that day. On the since-deleted livestream, Morrow also said that those who vandalized the Capitol should have been arrested. On the night of January 6, Morrow posted a since-removed livestream on her friend's Facebook account advocating for a military coup. In a video since-removed from YouTube in December 2020, Morrow said she had been locked out of her Facebook page for being "naughty" until January 23, 2021 - according to a copy archived by the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. "President Trump is still president until the 20th," Morrow said in the video streamed from her hotel room on the night of January 6, 2021. "So he can still invoke the executive order against voter fraud. And now he has every player that participated in his sights, and they can all be arrested for treason. And if the police won't do it and the Department of Justice won't do it, then he will have to enact the Insurrection Act. In which case the Insurrection Act completely puts the Constitution to the side and says, now the military rules all. Okay? "And let me tell you, President Trump, President Trump has the military on his side because the military and many leaders in the military who love this nation and who love our Constitution and who have put their life on the line to protect the freedoms of people in the United States that they will never meet, they chose President Trump to be their candidate," she added. "So as long as he invokes the Insurrection Act before the inauguration, then he's going to be re-inaugurated. He's going to be put back in." The Insurrection Act of 1807 allows the president to deploy troops to an American state if requested by the governor or state legislature. Additionally, under certain circumstances involving the defense of constitutional rights, the president can send troops unilaterally, though the law has been used sparingly - most notably to enforce desegregation in the 1950s and most recently during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Using the Act to remain in office would be "tantamount to a military coup," said Ryan Goodman, a law professor at New York University who previously served as the special counsel to the general counsel at the Department of Defense, "and would have likely involved a serious federal criminal matter for those involved." "Ms. Morrow's description of the relationship between the Constitution and Insurrection Act shows a fundamental lack of understanding how the Constitution and our system of laws works," he added. Morrow previously streamed videos of herself espousing extremist rhetoric on Facebook and YouTube - but deleted them sometime before running for office. CNN obtained the footage from an anti-Morrow group called Say No To Extremists, a grassroots organization that archives content from local candidates in North Carolina. Later, in the same video of the livestream, she condemned violence at the Capitol. "I do not promote breaking and entry. I do not promote vandalism," Morrow said. The new January 6 video comes as Morrow has defended her past claims, saying that her comments about executing Democrats were taken out of context, made in jest or not said at all. "(Her comments) demonstrate an ahistorical and baseless understanding of the world that is, at best, incompatible with the goals of a quality education," said Jared Holt, an expert on extremism at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, which studies right-wing extremism. Morrow on Jan. 6 CNN also reviewed, uncovered and obtained numerous videos of Morrow on January 6, 2021. Morrow is among several people running for elected office this year who were at the Capitol on January 6. She was not charged with any crime. Trump has continued to defend January 6, calling people convicted in the Capitol riot "heroes" and dangling pardons to defendants if he is reelected. In a video Morrow live-streamed earlier that day, she said to the camera she was on her way to the Ellipse rally that preceded the Capitol riot because "that's where our president asked us to come." "We are here to take back America. We are here to stop the steal. We are here to ensure that President Trump gets four more years," she said, appearing to walk with a crowd to the Ellipse rally. "If you're gonna commit treason, if you are going to, if you're gonna participate in fraud in the United States election, we're coming after you," Morrow added. So far, the North Carolina Republican Party has refused to comment on Morrow, as has Robinson, the party's nominee for governor who previously endorsed her when she ran for her local school board in 2022.

A typical January 6th participant... She 'sarcastically' said Obama should be killed. Now she wants to control kids' education. When Morrow ran for school board in 2022, she referred to public schools as 'indoctrination centers.' Now she wants to control North Carolina's education system as state superintendent. https://www.usatoday.com/story/opin...c-superintendent-maga-republican/74783669007/
Let's take a look at the typical violent criminal Trump pardoned. Jonathan Braun, convicted NY loan shark pardoned by Trump, is arrested for assaulting wife, father-in-law https://nypost.com/2024/08/22/us-ne...s-arrested-for-assaulting-wife-father-in-law/ A notorious New York drug dealer who was pardoned by President Donald Trump has been arrested for allegedly slugging his wife and his 75-year-old father-in-law, court records show. Jonathan Braun, 41, was busted on Long Island Tuesday after an argument with his wife at their Atlantic Beach home allegedly turned violent. Court documents say he was chasing her down the stairs when his father-in-law tried to intervene and Braun punched the senior citizen twice in the head. Braun’s wife told investigators he had thrown her to the floor on two separate occasions, once in July and again on Aug. 12, after which he “punched her in the head multiple times, causing her substantial pain, bruising and dizziness to her arms, legs, and head,” records show. He was arraigned Wednesday on a range of charges related to the alleged domestic disputes, the most serious of which is second-degree assault for intentionally causing physical injury to a person 65 or older by someone more than 10 years younger. He was also slapped with a pair of misdemeanor assault charges stemming from the alleged attacks on his wife. He was charged separately for petit larceny, stemming from a criminal complaint that Braun blew through EZ-Pass readers at the Atlantic Bridge tollbooth without paying around 40 times between May 31 and July 10, totaling $160 in unpaid tolls, court documents show. Braun allegedly removed the license plates from his white Lamborghini Yurus and black Ferrari convertible — two exotic cars priced well into six figures — to evade detection when ducking the tolls. Braun pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance by Judge Arieh D. Schulman, who shot down prosecutors’ request for bail. “My office requested bail be set at $35,000. The judge presiding over arraignment released the defendant on his own recognizance. We respectfully disagree with the judge’s decision,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly told The Post. “The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office continues to thoroughly review the evidence in this case and prepare for prosecution.” Braun was one of around 100 convicts given clemency by Trump in the waning days of his term in office. Braun had served less than three years of a 10-year prison sentence when Trump commuted his sentence on Jan. 20, 2021, his last day in office. A White House press release issued that same day detailed the pardons or commutations the outgoing commander-in-chief issued for dozens of individuals. “President Trump commuted the sentence of Jonathan Braun. Mr. Braun has served 5 years of a 10-year sentence for conspiracy to import marijuana and to commit money laundering,” the explainer statement reads in part. “Upon his release, Mr. Braun will seek employment to support his wife and children.” Braun was busted in 2010 for orchestrating a large-scale marijuana distribution ring that smuggled millions of dollars worth of weed from Canada to be peddled throughout the five boroughs. At the height of the operation, it was raking in an estimated $6 million per week, prosecutors alleged in court papers at the time. He also made a fortune heading up sketchy finance companies that charged usurious interest rates on loans made to small businesses — sometimes as high as 1,000% — often bullying or threatening customers with physical violence to collect on their debts. In once case, Braun repeatedly called a business’ owner threatening him, after a bank blocked a $10,000 debit from the business account. “You owe me money. Give me my money now,” Braun allegedly said, warning the man “not to ‘f–k with’ him” and threatening to “destroy” him and make his life a “living hell,” the court papers allege. “I know where you live. I know where mother lives,” Braun allegedly said. “I will take your daughters from you,” and, “You have no idea what I’m going to do.” Another time, Braun allegedly said to a different customer, “Be thankful you’re not in New York, because your family would find you floating in the Hudson.” Despite his vast illicit empire and considerable wealth — which he flaunted through purchases like a Bentley car and Rolex watches — Braun lived with his parents in their modest Staten Island home until federal authorities caught up with him. He was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison in 2019 but released in January 2021 after being granted clemency by the president. Braun’s second-degree assault charge alone could carry a sentence of as much as seven years if convicted. He’s next due to appear in court on Aug. 29. Reached by email for comment, a Trump campaign spokesperson said, “President Trump wants criminals to spend time behind bars, unlike Kamala Harris who wants to end cash bail.”
'Make the other side die': Michigan Trump fan makes ominous warning ahead of election https://www.rawstory.com/trump-2024-michigan/ A Trump supporter in Michigan this week issued an ominous warning about what will happen should his candidate not prevail in the upcoming election. In an interview with Politico, 62-year-old Trump supporter Richard McLeod, who in the past had been a militia member, suggested mass violence was in the offing if the election didn't go as he hoped. “We need God’s help, and I’m praying he’ll transition this thing peacefully, but if not, that’s where I come in,” he said. “I’m standing my ground. I’m fighting ‘til I die. And I want to make the other side die for their cause.” McLeod's comments come in the context of Trump supporters in Michigan refusing to believe that there is any chance he will lose the election, despite the fact that he lost it decisively in 2020 to President Joe Biden. Trump fan Kirk Deatrick, for instance, believes that Trump will win with 80 percent of the vote and said that only Democrats "cheating" would change that outcome. “The media would tell you that Harris is winning, but the heart of America will tell you that Trump’s got it made,” he said. Another Trump supporter named Dan Danger told Politico that he simply didn't believe Vice President Kamala Harris was intelligent enough to win the election. “It’s kind of like the rabbit and the sloth,” said Danger. “Have you ever seen a sloth? They have no brain. They work really slow. And that’s Harris.”
