All I'm saying is people who have lived down there, and centrist democrats see the wall as useless spending that could go to infrastructure, technology, and equipment to aid border enforcement.

The reality is that any successful "wall" will involve technology, physical barriers, and increased border enforcement. The "wall" will not only be a physical wall -- which is unrealistic but used by politicians even before Trump to provide the image.

The entire situation is painful. The only thing that will resolve it is a systemic improvement in immigration policy. The reality is that the U.S. needs immigrants of all skill levels in our country, but we need them to arrive here legally.

In the past I have proposed a three point strategy for dealing with illegal immigration:. There needs to be a practical solution for addressing illegal immigration which addresses the actual reality of the situation in the U.S. rather than all the political sloganeering. Some people on each extreme won't like it, but here are the three points of a practical solution:
    • Build a "wall". The wall will consist of physical barriers, improved detention facilities, technology, and increased staffing for enforcement.
    • Require all illegal immigrants present in the U.S. to register within 90 days with the U.S. government. Those who do not register or are felony criminals will be deported immediately with no appeal.
    • Grant all the illegal immigrants who registered a six year Visa. This Visa would be renewable or the individual could pursue a green cards, etc.
A final point on this is that the U.S. needs to end "birth right" citizenship - which is absurd in the modern era.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I have thought from the start that the concept of a physical wall was kind of archaic with all the technology we have now.
I guess the problem lies in the interception of people who cross in remote areas even if they are detected. That takes a lot of manpower and equipment. Therein lies the problem I suppose.
But still, tunnels render a wall useless; as do a myriad of other methods.
Tough situation really, no easy fixes. At least Trump's trying.

Trump wants a physical, he really is not trying to make things better at all.

You don't scrap the right to ask for refugee status and make it impossible for people to be processed and push them to cross elsewhere. You don't pull judges to hear their cases or increase detainment periods. You want an efficient removal strategy, you need personnel. It's a waste of tax payer's money to fund detainment camps when the people should be having a speedy hearing and removal.

Yes... some of this thought train is correct... we need MORE personnel to deal with the issues and removal.

I would question the need for more judges. In most western countries the hearing to deport someone does not involve an immigration judge, it is solely at the discretion of the border officer and the deportation is immediate. We should adopt a proper system.

By U.N. rules - "refugees" are required to apply for asylum at the first safe country they reach - which is Mexico - if these economic migrant are claiming they are refugees then they need to apply for refugee status in Mexico, not at the U.S. Border.

It is time for an complete overhaul of the U.S. immigration system. The end result will be to greatly increase legal immigration and eliminate nearly all illegal immigration into the U.S.

I'd rather keep the right to due process for ALL people in our jurisdiction rather than adopt other countries' systems. The immigrants have a choice to admit guilt and not go before a judge. Most refugee claims have to be heard by a judge. This creates a backlog due to lack of judges.

We flaunt UN rules all the time, which I imagine is why we still admit refugee claims. I will admit this is ripe for abuse...the argument could be made that Mexico is no better off for economic refugees, but overall I agree with your premise.

It is the parents fault for taking the child without food and water. What did they expect? A child's body is more sensitive to heat and cold because their bodies are not fully developed. Add to that, depriving a child of food and water and this is what you get! Border Patrol did everything they could for the child but, she was already in bad shape as it is. Chances are good, she would have died just the same! It is all on the parents head and nobody elses!

  10. There is no such thing as an economic refugee, it's a made up term to accommodate the current caravan. Seeking asylum because you're poor and/or because one has limited job opportunities is nothing more than another leftist ploy to gum up an already overtaxed system. We must always remember that the goal of the left is to create as many problems as possible with an ultimate goal of breaking the system. They have no interest in fixing anything.
