Mach 3.8 Supercomputer

  1. I think the answer is...it depends. In many areas, G5 is faster...maybe most?

  2. The triple monitor display with 52" of screen space is actually pretty good value at $4000. ) Only about 30% more than if you bought 3 quality 19" monitors separately.

  6. Yeah, I noticed that it was "only" $8K after browsing their site some more. But thanks.

    But it's still amazing how "relatively cheap" high end systems are nowadays. A decade ago just a high end Mac was close to $5K. I guess now is about the same too. hehe.

    I would guess a lot of the cost is the PurRam system that uses
    hi-speed RAM as hard drives.

    i can wait for it to come down in prices.. hehe

  8. Reason SGI is low-priced imo is market share. Not many places, Disney and other movie studios, maybe some gamers, use high-end graphics computers.

    If I am not mistaken, Quake runs on Linux.
