LOL!... I did place a fake trade today.. made $200... Going to live it up this weekend... Oddly, I had similar emotions (hopefully imagined) to using real money.
Character building!! At some point I will need to remember the reasons for trading. Good long trades in DIOD, MRVL, MTH, GRS were offset by SPWRB and SOLR, which looked great until FSLR stunk up the Solars THE day after I bought them as very nice looking charts. The timing couldn't have been worse. Stocks can be an irritant.. Seems the only stocks that are less susceptible to these surprises are Commodities and maybe some Health care.. Mundane sectors. Still impressed at the lack of daytrades recently.. It is the way to profits in Swing trading.. Hung on to AGU, STI, and GES shorts today in spite of their dis-respect most of the day.. Looks like the chart is BOTTOMING!!
so the bottom is in! haha. so any live trades in the futures yet? I'm wondering how you like TradeStation. I'm afraid I would trade too much with the expanded trading hours too, and that I'm just looking to futures because of my underperformance lately in equities/etfs. Thnk I'll demo for awhile at least.
Hmmmm.. looks we are both barking up the wrong tree as Futures simply will magnify any emotional shortcomings of the trader. Sort the shortcomings first.. (Like I DID??LOL). Tradestation looks to have every imaginable tool available, even my long sought feature at Ameritrade... triggers that are active only past a certain time.. (I believe they are Client side though so it has to be running). I like being able to easily design orders with automatic stops and exits. I will likely move all my short term trading over. Futures... only today did I place a couple of live trades... Was simply too terrified all week... Went fine.. superfast executions, $2.5 commission per trade (only traded 1 unit).. It really is an application you build to suit you.. Very stable and doesn't seem to be a resource hog. Smooth data (since last week anyway) very unlike Strategy desk at Ameritrade that lagged frequently and still have not fixed ETF distributions that were paid in December on their charts. Above all Swing trading still my salvation, if there is one.. Shorts in GES, DISH, ANN (finally), PSS.. picture perfect.. I think ultimately PROPER EFFORT = RESULTS in trading.. Draw trendlines and annotate all the time. Puts whatever you're trading in it's place and hopefully restricts the minds natural rat tendencies.
Track... watch out for my 1 contract tracks out there moving the markets!! Question.. what is "front month" and how close to March 20th will you trade the ESH09? Seems markets OUTSIDE normal trading hours less frenzied... ANN.. )
Haha. Just relax with it and it will come to you. I bet your method of stock trading would be great for swing trading the ES. You will notice lots of liquidity missing if you are on the wrong contract. Easiest way is just let TS tell you. Whatever their continuous contract is using, just trade that month.
Textbook Wedge on SP today.. Lazy during market hours and didn't draw trendlines as one should be doing all day. did not take advantage of it.. RSI trend break around 2pm was confirmation to buy any breakout after 3:30.. RSI over 50 and Shorts were fried, your truly included.. Of course looking tired and I doubt it gets through low 690's without retracing back to at least 680.. Historic trades are sooooo easy to take.. Work has rewards.
