Avoid DELL. While their computers are fine, should they build it incorrectly or should you need competent tech support, they are the worst of all that I have come across in 20 plus years of buying computers. They will suck hours and hours out of your life as you struggle to climb their various levels of tech support and rectify your problem(s). I find it insulting that their computers come with support warrantee but if so inclined, you can purchase a more expensive tech support plan that gives you access to experienced North American techs (their words). Unbelieveable. You think that there's a problem with their outsourcing?
I use my Mac for personal, non business related things. Mac's excel at integration of their hardware and software interconnectivity. But as for using a Mac for anything business, outside of video and audio editing, is just to costly. PC's by far are the more efficient business computing device. I use Dells for my derivatives trading and Lenovo laptop for my other business endeavors. If I didn't have an Iphone, I would drop the mac all together and go strictly with Lenovo's.
My main problem with Macs is that they just never exist when I am looking for some hardware. Let's forget the unusually crazy pricing... ...what about not "run of the mill" stuff? * Small workstations with a micro atc board size case that are STILL expandable? * High density servers (check Tyan, SuperMicro) putting 4 motherboards into 2 rack units... independantly, like micro blade systems? * Servers for databases, like the nice one I have from supermicro. 2 rack units high, 24 hard discs in front (2.5" form factor). * What about some management infrastructure? I dont go around pinging my servers when they are up / down, I have integrated management systems telling me. Macs... well... lets say that it is fun, but from really not a good point of view. Mac's basically target the "ok, I get them as they are nice, i have plenty of cash and plenty of space and dont know what to do with that" crowd. And no, never had a virus on Windows We got ONE infection in my company in the last year with malware, which was promptly identified, the computer cleaned and the person removed from the company once the firewall logs identified the source of the malware infection Btw., Dells are in the same boat, at least price wise. I once asked for an offer for server RAM. THe price cam very high. Extremely high. Yeah, 4 hour on site warranty. Problem: The server is in a data center with 2 4 hour staff ready to replace RAM.... and the price was SO high, I could buy 3 times the amount of RAM from Kingston, put it into the rack and have an admin replace it within 15 minutes
You too have missed the boat... Traders should buy Precision Line computers. Dell support is EXCELLENT for these.. all English speaking without heavy accents. Quick, competent service.
I looked up some Mac workstations equivalent to Dell Precision. Mac was bout $4000, Dell T3400 about $850.
