Lotto mania: Jackpot up to $540 million.

  1. We might see $600 million by the time the Friday comes along. Unfortunately, with this many people playing, probably more than 1 person will hit it. I really would like to see it go to one person. (preferably me!)

Anyway...here is my prediction on who will win.

#1 Someone over the age of 80 who will have no idea how to spend it and just end up putting it in t-bills

#2 A foriegner(most likely from latin america or south america) who will take the money back to his/her home country.

#3 A large group of factory/office workers (at least 15 of them) and the pot will be split so that not a single one of them walks away with more than $20 million in cash.

Still knowing the odds and the likely outcome, I couldnt resist putting $50 on it. Worst case scenario, at least I helped the schools.

if money was the solution the US which vastly outpaces other countries would produce superior students. if money was the solution ny which outspends utah by 2X would produce superior students

  4. Sorry...guess i should've said "Worst case scenario, at least I saved taxpayers a few bucks by helping the overpaid teachers union keep their bloated salaries"

  5. Odds are 1 in 175mil with projected prize of 500+mil => some group may buy all combinations.

What strategies can you use for lottery? Bayesian Inference?

As described, analyse a past series of numbers(the SUM) that fluctuates between 100 & 200 with a normal frequency bell curve distribution of mean 160. What is a suitable method to forecast short-term future range for a trendless but oscillatory, range bound type of time series?

  8. You forgot to figure the law of averages. You want to pick the numbers that hit the least if you want the best chance.

  9. Each drawing is unique, the balls do not have memories!
