Corona viruses have been seen in samples from 8000 bce and perhaps from a common ancestor 55 million years old. They have stayed recognisable because they have a distinct niche. This means constraints on their changes while also remaining viable. That said, the best thing to do is sudden sharp shock it with comprehensive immunisation to outpace its adaptation.
