  3. well, right now I'm trading manually, and you probably wouldn't be interested in my liver, but when I get fully automated you can have half of my brain for half of your nickels.

  4. Cool. I see old abandoned cars(mainly 1960/1970 vintage) on trailers being pulled behind late-model pickups all the time around this location, taking them home to be revived.

I'm in GenY, so I can agree and disagree with this thread. Many of the things said are right on: there are many things that today's youth have that are much better than before. Human society will keep on getting better, so this is a constant unless there's wwIII. Also, this gen is very responsible for the problems for electing that tool into the White House. I voted for McCain, along with some of my friends. But many just followed pop culture and their friends, and we have what we have in the White House. Also, GenY is much more ethnically diverse; hence why they are more liberal.

However, it is true the job market is much worse for entry level jobs and positions than probably at any other time. Very few of my friends landed positions in their original, chosen fields. I did not. So many are jaded that what was available for past generations isn't available for them, ie a start to their careers. Doesn't mean you try to make the best of it. I had a business and now trading.

My wife voted for that tool and cried during his speech. She's still crying but for a different reason. FWIW, I didn't vote for either. If only we got to chose the candidates that get paraded in front of us. The elections in the US are a sham. It's designed in such a way that you or I don't have a chance of getting our names on the ballot and even if we did the media would either crucify us or completely ignore us, much the way they do with Ron Paul.

  7. How many people dreamed of having the job they have now? Do you think any kid when they were asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" answered, "logistics manager for a large industial supply company"?

  9. Tell me about it. My wife's daughter drove around with "Obama Mama" plastered on the back of her jeep during "08. I wanted to puke every time I saw it. Now she is divorced.

  10. The root cause of this “long-term recession” we are experiencing right now stems from corporations moving jobs abroad. It isn’t too obvious given that we have all been made to believe, through out education, that international trade is good, and that both countries would be better off as they focus on their competitive advantages. The problem with this international trade theory is that is it not realistic at all. There is 1) no currency fixing (keep exchange rate low), 2) no stealing (of intangible good), and 3) everything is fair.

As well, due to the lack of government support, corporations are continuing to cut costs by outsourcing to stay competitive. The implication of this is that the more they outsource, the more unemployment in the economy, the fewer the revenue, and the more cost they need to cut and outsourced to meet investor’s expectation. This is what the cost accountant called a downward demand spiral. This is not going to get us out of this “long-term recession”, especially when our competitive advantage is in producing intangible goods such as the internet, movies, and music that can be easily pirated and copied.

Right now, these “smart” consulting companies like Accenture (used to be the defunct Arthur Andersen), are continuing to leech off the working class by helping corporations outsource our jobs aboard, yet we are blaming our economic problem on the housing bubble, the boomer generation, the financial institutions, and presidents? If jobs weren’t outsourced, people would still be able to make their mortgage payments, and that the housing bubble wouldn’t have been an issue.

In order to get out of this “long-term recession”, we got to get the jobs back.
