Does anybody know of a good income tax person in the SF bay area? I need someone that can work with IB's statements. Any suggestions appreciated. Ron
No accountant would be able to figure out anything by looking at the IB statements. Your best bet is to get a TurboTax and go to work.
You may be right. The guy I have been using wants me to print out over 200 pages of trades for him. Last year the IRS wasn't satisified and we had to send in additional information. Not much fun. Ron
You should be able to do a screen capture of the full annual IB report and email it to your tax guy. It's far from the best, but with IB you get what you pay for. Regarding mark-to-market, unknowledgeable rumors aside, it makes no difference if you elected section 475 M2M for securities or not as to the need to list each sale. M2M simply adds the complication to adjust the tax basis for open positions at December 31st, and it removes the complication of computing the wash sale losses.
do a screen capture of the full annual IB report and email it to your tax guy. This sounds good as it's over 200 pages on a print out.
