  3. Waiting for something to happen may be the reason you are looking so hard for a mentor.

Even if you find as mentor who has good proven advice (which it seems like thee are some good ones here), AND is willing to take the time out of his trading day to teach you.......
you will eventually figure out that you can learn 10 different styles of trading........
and may never be comfortable trading any of them if they don't fit your personality. The reason I bring this up is that if you aren't 100% comfortable in the system, you won't take 100% of the trades, which will prevent the systems edge from playing itself out. You will second guess and cherry pick trades.
My point being, that whether you find a good mentor or not, YOU still need to do alot of real trading on your own to develop a trading plan that suits you. Realistically speaking that can take a couple of years.
I don't care how much back testing you have done.....you still need live trading under your belt for you to be able to understand any education you may get. You will find that stuff you may learn today may not be "understood" for another 6 months.
I hope you find what you are looking for, but please stop whining and waiting for someone to hand "it" to you or prove to you through audited statements.
Make some trades and take some lumps and constantly refine your plan from what you learn.

Sorry to be so blunt but your post "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ"
    got me started.

It seems to me that Don Bright may have put you up to the challenge of asking people for their statements.

Trust me no one will post them for you so don't wait for it to happen.

Just as if you where to ask someone to post a naked picture of their wives it would not happen. (At least by any decent respectful man):)

Money is a personal thing and as such is respected by those that have worked hard to acquire it.

SO STOP ASKING, IT IS INSULTING AND DISRESPECTFUL.

As far as Don Bright goes, be smart insist that he shows you his and MANY of his successfully trained students statements. If he is going to be so bold to ask you to embarrasse yourself here in this forum with this stupid request, I think he should be held to the same standard.

If he does and your satisfied with them then go and work for the man. I have nothing against him and I do believe he provides a good service, just as good as your going to get anywhere else probably.

The issue here is not weather or not you are able to find a mentor, there are 20 web sites offering this service for a fee. The issue is will it be the RIGHT mentor for you.

  5. Hi MrJohnGalt,

First of all, I highly recommend you start spending in person time with different traders during actual trading conditions.

Get yourself a good laptop and the necessary accessories because you are the one asking for help and will need to be portable as you travel to home office of other traders in the Chicago area.

Don't forget this...any trader from Chicago that responds to you and offers to freely share (not mentor) trading tips while your disrrupting their normal trading environment via your physical presence, questions, commentary...

Its a very difficult task to find such traders to freely share during actual trading conditions.

With that said above...use the following threads to send each trader that saids they live in the Chicago area a private message...

    http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29632

    http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27428

    http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15408

In your private message you don't need give them a copy of trading record nor prove you are suitable for trading or suitable for learning how to trade.

In their response...they don't need to give you a copy of their trading record nor prove they are suitable for teaching you anything...

    Why?

Your initial goal is to find someone whom is willing to freely share and someone you think there will not be any personality clashes...the latter is extremely important especially if you later traverse into the mentor stage.

From the above...it may not develop into any mentorships but you should be able to make a few good friends and start forming that critical networking that's never a negative for trading.

If you get lucky and someone allows you to look over their shoulder as they trade...moving from one position to the next and giving an occassional commentary...

Offer to pay for their lunch or take him or her and their family out for dinner...

its the least you can do.

After several trading side by side in person sessions...

If you feel this person knows what's going on...now you can start thinking about approaching that individual about any mentoring.

Here's the best part...this person will also know if you are ready to trade and suitable to learning what ever they may teach.

My point is this...it works both ways.

Student wants to find a mentor that's suitable for teaching and the mentor wants to find a student that's suitable for learning...

In my opinion...once you've decided on which trader or traders to contact for a possible mentorship...

(Remember...they never contacted you...you are contacting them and you have already seen them trade in front of your own two eyes)...

You should send those traders a copy of your recent trading record, a copy of your personal trading journal that correlates with your trading record...

For a small fee...ask them to design a suitable trading plan for you based on how your already interpretating the market...

Then...the trader that comes up with the best trading plan...

This allows that trader the chance to get into the teaching mode because there will be a good chance they have never mentored before and this initial consultation will allow them and you to know if its something they want to pursue further.

Contact that trader again...let them know how much your willing to pay for private mentoring and that you need more proof than just the few days or weeks of actual trading you saw with your own two eyes.

Thus, its just as important and responsible for the mentor to verify your trading, properly capitalized and suitable for learning what he/her has to teach...

As it is for you get verification your mentor is actually a trader long before you saw them in action with your own two eyes, properly capitalized and suitable for teaching his/her methodology...

It's a two way street and the way it should be.

The last thing you want to do is get someone that's not suitable for mentoring and the last thing a mentor wants is to get a student that's not suitable for trading nor learning.

Good luck because its going to be extremely difficult to find a trader to freely share with you in the Chicago area while your looking over their shoulder as they trade and as you trade...

(no way will I allow someone to do such if they aren't trading themselves along side with me so that I can see how they are interacting with the markets)

more difficult if such develops into a mentorship relationship.

Geeesh...Chicago is full of home based CME traders...you should have compiled an enourmous list of initial contacts by now without even having to bring such public here at EliteTrader.com

P.S. Your posts and the posts of others are often a reflection of us as traders...

No offense...your not giving a good first impression to any real deal mentor or real deal trader that's thinking about mentoring any trader enough good reasons to contact you based on your interaction so far at this forum with other traders.

It's a two way street and the way it should be.

  6. Don and I have a special connection. It's a little something between us. No, we are not gay and Don is not Woodie (remember ART's thread).

  7. I already have nitro as a mentor. At least, that's what I think... ummm... actually, I'm going to nitro's pad and cry over all the abuses in ET... and annoy him... :D

    ====

It's rather interesting how people are. They demand respect from someone claiming to have a lower skill or competency and tend to kiss ass towards someone superior to you. Ain't that funny... and some call it "helping".

"I help you, so you give me respect!" Awkward ain't it?

  8. You obviously missed my point.
Experienced traders who may mentor you, are not demanding you respect them. They are demanding you respect how much much hard work they have already put in, to get to the point they are at in their traing career.
