Trading gives you immediate feedback that BS institutions or people do not. In that sense, I have been drained of self-illusions and replaced them with an accurate prognosis of my own flaws (which manifest themselves in trading if not corrected). People wonder what value trading brings to society. I think there is a certain honesty and character/thought improvement that real trading brings out, along with the need for objectivity and humility. Done at scale, trading can improve society!
Yes, totally agree. Welcome to the ET and happy to meet this your post! Trading is a new mastery, a gift from the Universe which is improving our society and hopefully it will bring the humankind close to real harmony - no greed, no laziness, no arrogance. In the end, the roots of many problems are greed and fear, unhealthy attitude towards money, and you must transcend both in order to be successful. It appears to not to be common sentiment even here on ET, at least considering the level of aggressivity I encounter https://www.elitetrader.com/et/thre...ill-bring-victory.320417/page-37#post-4828130. Someone wrote like - "what you are talking about [refering to the trading call post on my site], we are here just for the money" etc Even if many participants are still unconscious about this historical value of the change they are bringing to society, by dedicating themselves to this call of trading, it cannot change the flow and the truth: Since 1992, when thanks on CME, Mr. Leo Melamed, and his circle, launched Globex,https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Mercantile_Exchange#Electronic_trading the change started - today everyone can do, the possibility is open. The most difficult task is to front yourself, to dig in, to melt and burn all conditionings, and to meet your true self. Today only a few are ready, but it is increasing and will continue.
Thanks for the reply, and good to know others feel the same way. Of course there will always be crooks in trading and in business, but I think both have the potential to help and regulate society when done honestly.
I am really overwhelmed with joy to meet you - we are not alone here, but we are a minority, at least among those who often speaking. From another side, it has always been in the humans' history - crooks and crowd were always more in number. Interesting, how trading will influence this ratio?
Awesome, glad to meet you as well! I don't know if they're more in number or just more visible and immediately impactful. After all, the silent majority always gets ignored (and often blamed for the bad apples that do exist). The lure of easy money is hard for many to ignore, especially when met with the start reality that one's skills are not up to par. As retail traders, we face fewer such temptations/opportunities and are in a sense forced to do things the right way or lose money!
YES. I know I’m going straight to Hell. Why? Because the game is deep in Mammon’s world. I can’t give it up and walk away, YET. Like so. ...
Yes, very true. Two different thoughts are coming up from your comment. As for impact to the impact on society, especially the quality of human beings - trading is an amazing event, happening on the Earth. Yes, many can not understand, especially those who never tried or who failed. For instance, cunning, perfidy, deceit, greed, arrogance, stubbornness, cowardice, hypocrisy could be good skills to obtain success on past time business (actually not very past-time, look on many Russians oligarch and others, who get quickly rich in some strange ways), but in trading, they are representing a huge obstacle. The good-successful trader is a pure soul, courageous, observer, polite, respectful, devoted, frank. As for the silence - it is the inner nature of good people to be more silent, the cowardly and stupidity always has formed groups and attacked individuals. “Scoundrels for their mean things are knocked together. Well, so decent people (for repulsing them) should only do the SAME! Ie Unite. How simple!” Lev Tolstoy
I personally believe all buying and selling of stocks is trading regardless of the expected holding period. If you buy a stock or a call it better be based on logical thinking rather than an emotional quick decision. It has been said many times that engineers make bad traders. The people that make these statements don't understand engineers and how their work is structured. I think successful traders actions are closer to the way engineers work than they are aware of. Traders actions (methods) better be based on facts and correct probability and risk of ruin calculations or they are doomed to failure. I think both groups if successful are disadvantaged in social situations because that requires a different mental approach or mind set. Please forgive an old mans rant.
