I need to get a longer cable for my DSL modem. The one I am using is too short to provide connection to a computer in a more distant room. I need at least a 24 foot long cable. Does anyone know what cable I should be looking for? I mean some technical specifications. TIA.
from one side you could use a long regular phone cord or the other side a long regular Ethernet cable have you thought about a wireless setup maybe?
You need 25 feet (preferably a little more) of Cat-5 cable. http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/C/Cat_5.html I like Belkin. http://shopping.yahoo.com/p_belkin-...twork_cable,mid:5,pid:1990299714,pdid:5,pos:5 Peace.
Actually, that's a good idea as I have a sufficiently long phone cord lying around and if I connected it with the DSL cable that came with my modem that would do it. Now, what do I use to connect the two, what kind of connector is necessary? Technically speaking so that I could buy it. TIA.
I am not an expert at this. But I was told it is better to extend on the Ethernet Cable side verses the telephone cable side because of line drop issues. Michael B.
dsl range is in miles copper 10/100 ethernet 100 meters extending either one in your house shouldnt matter - but telco cable is cheaper & smaller diameter
Good tip, thanks again. That's what I did. A shorter DSL line connected to my puter and a longer phone line connected to a phone socket. Both joined with a regular phone coupler for ca $4. Works fine, except that I am still fighting some parasite on my puter.
