The post history of yours all can be summarized as follows, according to my understanding and logical reasoning: "we as America must decide between a system that we currently have, unchecked capitalism, or we need to choose socialism, Venezuela style." It does not seem to be plausible to you that you can mix and match and end up with an entirely different system, a system for example, that beats the US on almost every metric/variable that society would attach value to. In fact, you could retain the precious values that make America so great, such as the entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to play and experiment with ideas. You would end up with a far superior American society and system that would work way better for vastly more people of the population.
Yes this is a very realistic situation that you described. Just take a little bit of the best of the rest of the world and just implement it into the heterogeneous, multi racial, multicultural society that is America. Hope springs eternal. Sure on well chosen individual metricies, yes. But I can name other metricies where the US has historically been the underdog since its foundation. Healthcare and welfare and protection for the hard working who, unfortunately, suffered severe setbacks in life that were not of their own making. A society that was from the ground up designed to protect and enrich the upper class and gave very few opportunities to newcomers and the ones on the bottom (especially in the past 2-3 decades). Aggression towards others/regimes that the US deemed incompatible with its own beliefs (God Syndrom)... But at least we could find some limited agreement here which I definitely welcome.
