lets put it this way....99% of the girls i slept with in gainesville when i was at school..where lil cuban mami's from miami that hadnt lived outside of their parents home til then...can anyone say 'VIVA LA VIDA LOCA' ..
sort of my point. If you own a convertible and you are going to leave it on the street or in fairly deserted areas, you should just leave the doors unlocked. you walk to some bars in a sketchier side of town - walk quickly like you know what you are doing. Try not to flash the rolex. When I was mugged in school, I was in 7th grade, I came from a nice elementary school in douglas manor and went to a junior high that had black kids bussed in from Jamica. Now over all I got along with them fine I usually played basketball with them in the morning. But there was no doubt you could get hurt if they mugged you and you did not act properly. There was nothing I could do, 3 older larger black kids asking me for my bus pass (pretending?)they had a knife in my back. I did not have the type of bus pass they wanted so they let me go. Needless to say this bussing situation caused my family and millions of others to flee big cities.
Yeah it is. Sorry El, some of us need a little more intellectual stimulation then a Latin night club in south Beach or watching jewish ladies play shuffleboard in Boca. Miami and all of south FL is completely devoid of anything even closely resembling culture. No way could I live there. Beach gets old afterwhile as does the traffic, heat, crime, real estate prices and of course the hurricanes. You can have it!
That is quite a large generlization since you reference Miami and Boca Raton in the same sentence. You realize that Boca Raton is not only north of Miami it is north of Ft. Lauderdale so you are laying a stereotype on over 60 miles of Florida real estate!!!! As for culture and activities, the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area has Florida Marlins, Miami Dolphins, U of M football, Miami Heat (NBA champs), Cirque d' Soleil was there with their traveling show this summer, International Boat Show every year, the Hard Rock Cafe and Casino has a theater where big names perform throughout the year, not to mention the Heat arena. Real estate is not relatively expensive in the many neighborhoods between Boca and Miami (Pembrooke Pines was one of the country's top growing areas in Florida and in the US I think). Initial flordia keys and everglades are are an hour or so away for nature-type activities. I was impressed how much that region has grown and how diverse it really is. I think outside of latin food, the cuisine is still average but culture is there. Architecture and art are everywhere down there. Miami and Ft. Lauderdale both have international airports for getting around. Cruiseships leave daily for the Carribbean or you could fly there in the morning and be at a resort or playing golf by lunchtime. It goes without saying that that region has a large amount of museums and collections and cultural influences from the Carribbean and Latin America. Remember we are talking about 60 miles of coastline. I personally would not want to live in that area since I like changes in the seasons and bumpy terrain but since my family lives in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale and sprinkled in between, it is easy to see it is not just Cuban nightclubs and old Jewsih ladies lol. Moreover, crime is a bad generalization. Like saying the area between Philly and New York is crime ridden. Sure maybe Newark and Jersey City but plenty of beautiful safe suburbs sprinkled all over. Same with Miami-Boca corridor. Crime is in bad areas like every other part of the world (didn't Gainsville have a serial killer some time ago that was pretty famous lol). So the crim is just like it is everywhere else in the country. Heat is the same all over the state, even worse inland from what I hear from some Orlando natives.
intellectual stimulation in GAINESVILLE????...you mean watching 20 year old kids pound nickle beers?????? cmon homey.. p.s. I havent been to a night club in over 15 years... ;o) and fishing never gets old....
Phillips center does have decent performances, and how can you beat going to games with 90k plus screaming out of their minds..
College football is great but still prefer the NFL and U of Miami has a good football team too (of course not this year lol...)
Most college towns of decent size provide some sort of intellectual stimulation whether it be Gainesville, Boulder, Austin, or Ann Arbor.
Yeah, when I was in Ann Arbor I saw one of the best wet t-shirt contests I have seen in a while. Let's face it, if you are married, living in a major college town is just a never-ending dick tease...
