Well, guess it makes sense now. It was was another self-immolation protest rather than a destructive attack. Soldier who died in Cybertruck left writing criticizing government, authorities say Law enforcement officials say Matthew Livelsberger left behind a "diary of activity" on his phone. Those who knew and served with Livelsberger described a patriotic soldier. Jan. 3, 2025, 4:51 PM GMT-5 / Updated Jan. 3, 2025, 5:16 PM GMT-5 By Antonio Planas A decorated Army veteran likely suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder called U.S. government leadership "weak" and appeared to acknowledge he purposely blew up a Tesla Cybertruck at the entrance of Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year's Day, police said Friday. Dori Koren, an assistant sheriff with the Clark County/Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, said investigators were able to access one of two phones found in the Cybertruck and viewed writing in an app that served almost as a journal, documenting some of Matthew Alan Livelsberger's movements and state of mind from Dec. 21 to New Year's Eve. Two letters in the phone app appear to point to a motive in the blast, Koren said. In one, he tells "fellow service members, veterans and all Americans" it's time to "wake up" because the country's leadership is "weak" and "only serves to enrich themselves." "We are the United States of America, the best country ... to ever exist, but right now, we are terminally ill and headed towards collapse," the letter said. "This was not a terrorist attack. It was a wake up call. Americans only pay attention to spectacles and violence. What better way to get my point across than a stunt with fireworks and explosives....I need to cleanse my mind of the brothers I’ve lost, and relieve myself of the burden of the lives I took." Disillusioned by Trump<Musk alright plus PTSD.
When someone has caused the deaths of many innocents in fire, self-immolation might, to them, seem like the fitting way to express contrition. Such was the case with the Air Force guy* recently. Livelsberger died seeking forgiveness and giving a valid warning as he saw it, and we should remember him with pity and compassion. The blame he placed on himself, rather than on the larger systemic failures, may or may not have been misguided. Regardless, we must strive to learn from his sacrifice. This is precisely why I chose to remain a civilian. I was warned of the heavy toll that following orders can take on men of conscience, being the instrument of indifference is an evil thing that brings moral injury. There are other ways to be a man. * Echos perhaps of: "Aaron Bushnell walked calmly up to the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC and set himself on fire. Dressed in his US Air Force uniform, Mr Bushnell said he would "no longer be complicit in genocide"." PTSD is a hard thing.
He was a bright kid and though likely depressed and struggling with other stuff.. and in failure heavily contributed to a bad result, I hope he makes his Valhalla anyway. Not forgetting the guy Trump's lack of screens, his choice, cause the death of. A gun is not the way to succeed and walk away, but I would not say what I'd have done instead if I were him in public. However there are many who have the old set of skills to succeed and as I said before, Trump ran as a fascist. If he truly rules as a fascist they will start coming out of the walls. Moral injury can only build so much. Franco died of old age, it's important we don't get our hopes up.
As a side note... why to Cybertrucks keep bursting into flames at the rate of about one per week. Is Musk going to claim that they all had fireworks in the back?
