Came back after a month away... so a fresh look at things. The user names are in too big a font and too much wasted space on the left. The empty vertical white band and the extra wide band that holds the poster's name and statistics. Some of us still use compact 1024x768 resolution monitors for lightweight use and the current format is not too friendly to that resolution. Glad many of the old features are returning.
It's not meant to be friendly at that resolution because virtually nobody is using it. We don't optimize our site for old-school screen resolutions like that, so if the site looks a bit odd at that resolution, then that's just the way it's going to be. According to our site statistics, the most popular screen resolution amongst our users is 1920 x 1080.
Thanks for sharing the screen resolution of users. With that data, I would make the same decision that you did. My desktop is 2560 x 1080 so that fits with most folks reading ET while at the desk, or a large laptop.
I am still using a 1024 x 768 screen resolution and ET pages mostly fit and look great. I think a lot of this is a function of the browser settings.
