‘Like a Terror Movie’: How Climate Change Will Cause More Simultaneous Disasters

Discussion in 'Politics' started by futurecurrents, Nov 19, 2018.

  1. Global warming is posing such wide-ranging risks to humanity, involving so many types of phenomena, that by the end of this century some parts of the world could face as many as six climate-related crises at the same time, researchers say.

This chilling prospect is described in a paper published Monday in Nature Climate Change, a respected academic journal, that shows the effects of climate change across a broad spectrum of problems, including heat waves, wildfires, sea level rise, hurricanes, flooding, drought and shortages of clean water.

Such problems are already coming in combination, said the lead author, Camilo Mora of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He noted that Florida had recently experienced extreme drought, record high temperatures and wildfires — and also Hurricane Michael, the powerful Category 4 storm that slammed into the Panhandle last month. Similarly, California is suffering through the worst wildfires the state has ever seen, as well as drought, extreme heat waves and degraded air quality that threatens the health of residents.

Things will get worse, the authors wrote. The paper projects future trends and suggests that, by 2100, unless humanity takes forceful action to curb the greenhouse gas emissions that drive climate change, some tropical coastal areas of the planet, like the Atlantic coast of South and Central America, could be hit by as many as six crises at a time.

One research will say global warming is a real phenomenon. Another research would say global warming is a hoax.
Nowadays, the researches are not that reliable. The data are being manipulated. They tend to omit data which doesn't supports their hypothesis and include only data that does. They are being used for propaganda.

The first part of the headline says it all and that's why people don't give it a priority over healthcare, jobs, taxes etc...

You've cried "wolf" too many times.

  5. I've cried wolf? No I haven't nor have the scientists. They have said are still saying things like this....

You may think they cried wolf, but that's due to your ignorance of what they have been saying. Your fault, not thiers.

    • American Chemical Society
"Comprehensive scientific assessments of our current and potential future climates clearly indicate that climate change is real, largely attributable to emissions from human activities, and potentially a very serious problem." (2004)4

    • American Geophysical Union
"Human‐induced climate change requires urgent action. Humanity is the major influence on the global climate change observed over the past 50 years. Rapid societal responses can significantly lessen negative outcomes." (Adopted 2003, revised and reaffirmed 2007, 2012, 2013)

    • American Meteorological Society
"It is clear from extensive scientific evidence that the dominant cause of the rapid change in climate of the past half century is human-induced increases in the amount of atmospheric greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), chlorofluorocarbons, methane, and nitrous oxide." (2012)7

    • American Physical Society
"The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring. If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth’s physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now." (2007)8

  6. Just from reading online... the Solar Maunder Minimum (well document sun spot cycle)... will/may usher us into a several year period of planet cooling. That will knock all the "AGW supporters' dick into the dirt"... as man-made carbon influence is just a "grain of sand on the beach" in impact, comparatively.

This winter is currently forecasted by the Weather Channel as "much colder that normal... and likely several more to come... perhaps even a mini-ice-age... due to solar cycle". How does that square with "global warming" fuckhead zealots??

  7. Maybe those super smart scientists should find a way to make it economically beneficial to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Solve that problem and you just solved man made climate change...but don't expect the world to pay you trillions of dollars to attempt to fix something that most people say isn't broken.

  8. Every expert says it's broken.

No publishing climate anywhere on this rapidly heating planet denies man made global warming. The debate about the basics are over.

Yes, Trump and some of his ignorant supporters who don't know shit about the science or the facts think it's all just fine.

And I can tell how you use "super smart" as an insult that you to are one of those Tumper morons. Newsflash, nitwit, being smart is good.

Your statement above is not a lie, you really do believe it, but it has clearly a ridiculous statement. You fail to understand that we still do not understand what is causing global warming. It is definitely not a rise in CO2. That is firmly established by now. Sadly for all of us, until we recognize the cause of warming we won't be able to do anything about it. And maybe even then we won't.

This is a question for science to answer, not the the popular media, nor our politicians.
