Light reading books needed

  1. I am going to be at the beach for a week, and will be making my Barnes and Noble run soon. I usually walk straight to my usual vacation authors(King, Koontz, Grisham, Hunter etc...), because I guess I rather go with an author I know than get stuck in an aweful book, not that those mentioned don't have many weak books. However, I'd like to try something off the beaten path. Any good suggestions? I want something where I do not have to reread the sentences to understand what they mean. I read all genres except fantasy (no talking unicorns). thanks
