It could happen. Remember when the govt. (Obama) 'bailed out' GM and Chrysler before they went bankrupt and then owned a significant portion of them? They shut down 600 or so Chrysler dealerships. An outrageous percentage of the owners chosen to shut down were registered Republicans...something like 550 or 580. They shut down a dealer in Florida that was supposedly the second largest in the state and was consistently profitable. But he was a Republican, not a Democrat. Think it was a coincidence... I don't.
Notice our resident Liberals are nowhere to be found. When socialism fails miserably, socialists are nowhere to be found. Personal accountability eludes them ;P
Guys, this is the Economics forum. If you turn this thread into a political discussion it will be moved to the P&R forum.
I used to think Canada and the US should merge into a super country, while still not impossible I no longer think that way. North and south of the 49th is very different in culture while appearing similar.
And Australia, and New Zealand, I'd like to see you tell an Aussie they're "in disarray"! Chile, Peru, Uruguay and Columbia are all on a pretty steady upswing if you want to talk South America, and Costa Rica and Belize in Central America. These are just places I've been and none seemed "in disarray", I'm sure there are other successes out there as well. You (recession2016) ought to try traveling outside the U.S. sometime, you will certainly find it educational and you may even have fun!
But seriously, on Venezuela, I feel so badly for those people. Once Maduro is out, by hook or by crook, I hope they will elect someone who cares about them. We need a large, inaccessible island where we can put all the megalomaniacs and all the WMDs. We can throw Assad, Maduro, Kim Jong Un, and all the other lunatics out there. We can build each of them a palace from which to operate. They can gas and radiate each other to their hearts' content. Of course, it should be a reality TV show. After all, the revolution will be televised.
Sadly the situation in Venezuela, a corrupt government and the people suffered in Brazil the situation is no different, if not the greatness of the country perhaps we would be in the same situation.
