If our conscious lives forever then death is a myth, and trying to get around it is pointless IMO. Thing is, we won't know for sure until we "die". I've done a lot of study on Near Death Experiences and the evidence of an afterlife is pretty compelling. Either way, if I die , fine. If my conscious lives on, great. I'm not scared to die in either scenario. Ray Kurzweil seems pretty scared of death which is a hell of a way to spend your time alive.
I saw him on Bill Maher about a month ago. I think the irony is once we figure out life extension, human beings will be extinct. There have been some fascinating articles recently about the inevitability of the extinction of man. Not by some cosmic disaster, but rather by evolution, replaced my machines. It's coming. It's a mathematical certainty.
