Life after 50

  1. Very kind of you to say. I'm glad I was of some help.

So there's hope I can go full 3rd age of Elvis but recover?

I've never really let go of reasonable fitness but joints are well worn. I have a non-magnetic sand sized fragment in the knee, docs for years said that it wasn't a source of inflammation as it was contained by tissue, and it never showed on x-ray... but I had an MRI done last week and there it is, likely a blast fragment.

The surgeon is going to just drill in.

That "X-ray", sent to me by a Colombian friend I mentioned it to :)

  3. Oh, shit! I didn't look beyond the afflicted knee in the (so-called) X-ray. :D

You can forget the concern. :p

I actually am getting microsurgery :) You missed the third leg there. That's proof of being completely straight.

  5. Yes, it's possible to come back from Stage 3 Elvis, but some damage seems irreversible. The old body just doesn't look like the young body, even at the same weight. Looking good naked is a thing of the past. Now if I was hung like the x-ray guy, I suppose that would bring some comfort. :wtf::wtf::wtf:

  6. ALWAYS keep a close eye on Afib,I had it in back 2020 which led to a severe stroke.
4 days in ICU and months of rehab NO FUN....eventually had two ablation procedures,
now things seem to be in check.

Little note, might interest the elder lemons (I'm nearly 53 but despite being fit, feel two decades older often).

A short while back I got Norovirus, Chinese buffet food. The fever passed normally, but for the first time ever I had post-viral intestinal inflammation (IBS), three solid weeks of Montezuma's revenge. That finally cleared with some advanced probiotics.

Then, during a trip to California, I got a nasty infection in a wisdom tooth.

So I thought, “Great... ten days of heavy antibiotics (Amoxicillin for the aerobic bugs, Metronidazole for the anaerobic).” I was bracing for a gut biome catastrophe.

But… I think I accidentally hit the reset button.
After the antibiotics, I went back on probiotics, and now I feel good. Really good. Physically and mentally. All those little nagging inflammation spots? Gone. Mood? Better than it’s been in ages. My skin is perfect, not a trace of acne and such. I was never good at washing my face nightly, just in the shower like most men.

Maybe my serotonin’s no longer being hijacked by garbage flora too.

  8. Damn! Thanks for the cautionary tale. And I'm glad things turned out okay.

  9. Wisdom teeth aren't nearly as wise as they are purported to be. That's why I fired all of mine in my mid-30s.

  10. Glad you're okay. I do take a blood thinner and a beta blocker daily. Luckily, I have had no symptomatic episodes, but I do know it's possible to be in Afib and have no symptoms, so I continue the meds. My Afib was VERY symptomatic prior to the meds. Like sit down RIGHT NOW, or fall down symptoms. No fun.
