And entirely new careers will arrive to replace them. In the 1980s there were similar forecasts about the future and the 1990s became one of the most profitable decades in history. Impossible to imagine really how fast it all occurred and it created massive job opportunities.

You forgot to include the sub-title of the article...

Many banks stress that the shift will result in roles being changed by technology, rather than replaced altogether

This means these people will simply for the most part be moved to roles that require using AI rather than fired. Nothing more than a typical technology shift in banking. AI will start being used in many corporate roles over the upcoming years -- I don't see if replacing humans but actually aiding them in being more productive -- allowing increased corporate profits.

  3. That is incorrect. They will be replaced. What in the hell will they do? Sit around and drink coffee? There will be literally nothing for them to do.

  5. There is no historical precedent for this; no past event offers a meaningful comparison.

@Nine_Ender and @gwb-trading, do yourselves a favor and do some research from the top people and thought leaders in AI. Come back and then we will have a discussion.

You can stay in denial but this is happening whether you believe it or not.

  6. LOL. You don't like the truth.

Can you please explain why a company would pay a person even $150,000 a year when AI's cost will be probably less than $1,000 to do the same job better?

  7. AI is not there yet wrt developing apps autonomously. You would need to be a developer right now.

But, it is close and will probably be here by the end of 2026.

Go test this out and bang out your own app: https://lovable.dev/

Some examples of the current state:

The Internet is a precedent. So were personal computers; I developed on some of the originals. Networks, browsers, WANs, cell phones, Windows interface, ... . I've seen a lot of new trends. I don't think you have. You lack perspective I worked in IT for decades. AI is just another tool that can transform things; some of these tools miss the mark though or morph into something different.

I know someone who is considered to be an expert in a lot of these leading edge trends. Their take on things is a lot of these tools/techniques increase your productivity and income potential. And they proved it in their career. I'll take their opinion on any of these topics over anything you'll post.
