Why are you arguing? I agree that independent thinking is always best. There is no argument there. As for those who choose not to think or are incapable of doing so, at least let's hope they do no harm.
Independent thinking is preferable, sure. Your using that idea as a chance to impugn all of religion or all religious people is not reasonable, as we clearly see both atheists and theists act in ways that a not reflective of genuine independent thinking.
