Correct, SIV, (the original virus in monkeys), didn't kill them, but it made them sick as hell, like a bad case of the flu. When it was passed from them to the hunters, it mutated into HIV where it became deadly. It more than likely was passed from the monkey to the human via wounds, such as cuts and scrapes, in the human. It probably would not have survived in the digestive tract after the meat had been eaten. Or, it was all cooked up in the lab where they filmed the fake moon landing.....
