  1. he lost me when he tried to equate giving to build fancy churches with giving for schools. which has greater value to society?

"In any case, if conservative donations often end up building extravagant churches, liberal donations frequently sustain art museums, symphonies, schools and universities that cater to the well-off. "

Who knows which is of greater value. Hard to objectively quantify. But it makes the argument that either is more charitable or compassionate to the poor not as cut and dry as either side would like.

  6. "In addition to the Nobel Prize money, the 0bamas donated $329,100 to 40 different charities, about 6% of their income."

To put it in the perspective of how the common peasant would feel to give away 6%:

The 2009 median household income is $52,000.
    6% of $52k is $3120.

0bama's gave away the peasant equivalent of $3120 with millions to spare. That's truly selfless and an example why we should pay higher taxes.

The 0bamas have to keep as much as they can now before taxes increase.

  8. Dick Cheney Donates Millions to Charity

    Saturday, April 15, 2006 12:20 a.m. EDT

In one of the largest sums ever donated to charity by a U.S. public official, Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne gave away nearly $7 million last year to help the poor and to medical research.

According to income tax information released by the White House on Friday, the Cheneys' adjusted gross income in 2005 was $8,819,006.

The sum was largely the result of Mr. Cheney's stock options from Halliburton and royalties from three books written by Mrs. Cheney.

The Cheneys gave more than three-quarters of their income - $6,869,655 - to several charities, including George Washington University's Cardiothoracic Institute and a charity for low-income high school students in the Washington, D.C. area, Capital Partners for Education.

The Cheneys' charitable generosity stands in marked contrast to that of their predecessors, whose sometimes stingy donations became a national embarrassment.

In 1997 for instance, Al and Tipper Gore contributed just $353 to charity, a sum that raised eyebrows even in friendly media circles.

The Los Angeles Times noted, for instance, that the Gores' slender donation "caused some bewilderment in philanthropic circles because of the vice president's 'good guy' image as an advocate for public service and social causes."

The same year the Gores gave $353 to charity, they reported $197,729 in adjusted gross income.

  9. Bidens below average in charitable giving
Tax returns show Obamas earned $5.5M in 2009

President Obama earned big money last year and gave more than most to charity, but his second in command was a bit tight-fisted when it came to digging in his own pocket for donations.

Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his wife, Jill, earned $333,000 in 2009, and gave $4,820 -- 1.44 percent -- of that to charity in cash or in-kind donations, according to their newly released tax forms. (but remember kiddies, Liberal=Compassion for the poor!)

Estimates by charitable organizations show that most givers donate between 3 and 5 percent of their income.

Mr. Obama and first lady Michelle Obama exceeded that range. The first couple gave 5.9 percent -- or $329,000 -- of their $5.5 million of income to charity in 2009.

The Obamas' largest contributions to charity were $50,000 to CARE, a poverty-based organization, and the United Negro College Fund. Mr. Obama also donated his $1.4 million Nobel Prize money, which he gave to 10 charities.

The president's books, "Dreams From My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope," generated the majority of the Obamas' income.

The first couple paid nearly $1.8 million in federal income tax and $163,303 in Illinois income taxes.

The Bidens paid $71,147 in federal income taxes, $12,420 in Delaware income taxes and $1,477 in Virginia income taxes.

Really? Are you guys seriously going to get into a posting contest as to which prominent party figures donated more to charity to try to prove to trump if being liberal equates to being compassionate towards the poor.

    That's just silly.
