If $119 down day is not big deal, then what IS noteworthy? 500 bux? 5000 bux? 50000 bux? Where does one draw the line on noteworthy? ALL up and down days are "noteworthy". Sheesh!

In my opinion, long-term tech exposure, standard QQQ is safer. If you're okay with higher risk and active monitoring, leveraged ETFs can work, but they’re better for short-term trades rather than "buy and hold" strategies.

Over the years I've used TQQQ SPXL UDOW as cyclical buys. Since the pandemic I mainly used FNGU SOXL LABU. LABU collapsed 3 months after the vaccines came out & SOXL was good until NVDA stopped rising (it peaked in July 2024 and s currently down 60% since then). FNGU is the real star but you can only buy it in a cycle, unless you have the stomach for vol like the r/WSB crowd.

From the peak in Nov 2021 to the trough in Dec 2022 it dropped 92% from $500 --> $37.

Then it went from $37 --> $564 in 19 months.

Due to the Yen carry trade conniption it went $254 in 5 weeks. That's a 55% loss.

Since the bottom of that calamity it has gone up 170% to $686. That's 27 weeks.

The most amazing thing is if you bought FNGU at the bottom of $37 in Dec 2022 you would be up an amazing 1,754%.

That’s some crazy volatility! Definitely not for the faint of heart. FNGU’s rebound is impressive, but timing these cycles is tough. Do you use any indicators or macro signals to decide when to enter and exit these leveraged plays?

I just use simple moving averages to get in & out. For long cycles I use the 50 week SMA on the 1X ETF FNGS.

It has been a buy since 1/30/2023:

Shorter term trading I use the daily 50 day SMA. It's more choppy in the short term. I notice that long red candlesticks near a cyclical top seems to signal more selling is coming.

It was pretty choppy between July-early September, due mainly to the Yen carry trade capitulation. It's been a buy since 9/13/2024. That translates to $394 on FNGU so it is up $250 in 5 months. That's 60% on FNGU.
