Level 2 for index futures?

Discussion in 'Index Futures' started by biologymajor, Feb 28, 2007.

  1. Is there a level 2 for stock index futures like there is for Nasdaq stock trading? I know there is a DOM(depth of market) window, but it doesnt' show who is buying the 250 contracts that just came across the DOM like it does for Nasdaq. Nasdaq shows us if goldman sachs is the one who is buying. DOM shows us only a time and sales but not "who is buying". is there something similar to nasdaq's level 2?

  2. No. The DOM and T&S is about as much as you'll get.

There was clearing info available to institutionals, but I believe that has become completely anonymous nowadays.

Of course, you could try working in the pits, that way you'll know when Goldman is buying. The Realtime futures squawk service provides some limited info on this activity (I'm sure there are others).

  3. Keep in mind, with hidden orders, reserve orders, anonymous MMIDs (SIZE), it really isn't possible to derive who is buying and selling on Nasdaq L2 anymore these days.
