Any opinion on GS here at $228.50 Stoney?
Of course CNBC isn't mentioning it (they are deep into hyping AMZN vs Blue Apron this AM) but Blackrock (BLK) missed bad and is getting clobbered. Down $13.
I'm thinking GS is a good short if it takes out $231 at some point today.

Have not looked at Sony yet... thanks for the idea.
    more to follow.

Goldman $226 on light trading revenue. As planned.
I looked at SNE Stoney. Tough call. Needs to break out of that channel. Could happen.

  3. I think Sony's time has come. I guess the whole Japanese market must be considered but several trends are working in Sony's favor. Perhaps the biggest is value. Sony expects to generate $2.4 billion in net income, which puts its forward P/E ratio at 19 times earnings.

They are big into gaming. They are big into music, movies... the TV business I know they say is a loser but lets be honest they have always made great TV's especially the XBR models. I'd like to know who discovered " Blue Tooth " was it Sony... my old mind seems to think so and could they be getting any royalties off that technology which is embedded everywhere? I'm behind the times clearly, but this summer I'm just learning the tricks of blue tooth as I tug a huge portable speaker out to the pool area and through my wife's cell phone-- presto a dance party of one. Blue Tooth is fantastic. This has also led me into the world of Spotify and it's not bad! I had a much worse experience years ago sampling Pandora which I hated. More on this theme later.

Sony looks great the question would be an entry price... and of course the question-- did we tip into a correction yesterday? I had predicted one for exactly yesterday so we have to monitor today's close closely. At one point yesterday apparently we were down pretty good, I missed it i was outside tending to my plants. The chart looks fab to me. In basic terms a Break out at $34, this would be a best price to buy at; a 2 year Break out at $33!!! So I really feel that $33-$34 area is great support for Sony. ($32.75 officially) SNY is $40 now. As a rule of thumb what I like to to is count from the break out up and then half... so 34-40= $6 movement divide in half = $3 count three up from $34 and you get $37.00<--- THAT IS YOUR ENTRY ON SNY.

At this time next year, the stock should be $50 in my view.

RNG has done exactly what we asked it to do-- come back a dollar-- now we must follow the market carefully-- next run up this stock should lead. Part of me wants to buy it right now this morning.

My yield idea KNOP just announced a distribution!!! Talk about timing, I have to get my arms around this 52 cents per unit... but what is a unit??? The stock is $23.50 so is $23.50.= of one unit?? Or is it more... I'm asking a pro on this one and risking looking foolish.

Back Later Today... Thoughts on GS to come.. my initial thought is Trading is way down everywhere, but GS seems to make money is so many ways, they ought to be ok. How anyone makes money offering index funds to retired folks I don't really know...~stoney

  4. Here's my email)Do I sound crazy?

Dear Hedge fund manager who agrees to manage me)

Good morning. When KNOP (shipping % play) announced yesterday it’s distribution it was 52 cents per unit.
This may be a simpleton question but what makes up a unit here?
Every share @$23.50 (the current price) So 52 cents every $23.50 dollars invested? For arguments sake 1000 shares would receive what amount in dividend.
    In by Aug 2.
    Thanks~stoney

  5. Alright here's our answer:
KNOP pays a 52 cent dividend per share every quarter or $2.08 per year for an 8.85% yield.
So if you own 1,000 shares, every quarter you receive $520.

Alright then buy in by Aug 2 --> will the KNOP shares sell off after to match the div?
Or not? Some do some don't...

  6. I blew it on NFLX. I screwed up. Ok I said it. I sold too soon. I calculated the new sign up would not be there and they were there. I'm surprised. I went off my own feelings of House Of Card which I mean I lost interest last season and now this year with Trump in office nothing that show can do surprises anymore and I didn't think this year they would be a big post House of Cards bump.

Personally I like NFLX and use it the way I used to uses earthlink, it's kind of always there on the credit card but actual use is low-- I've started watching the new Peele show.. or is it Key no it's Key sorry.. it's called Friends... something Ugh... Friends later on.. or something it's pretty darn good. I'm four episodes in and have laughed quite a bit...

Netflix actually missed earnings!!! Ugh... 10% up day and I'm out... The original plan was to sell today!! On the sub news which usually is up after House Of Cards premiers.. then I let my own taste come into the picture... my own preferences which may be different these days than some of America. Hummmm.

Yoga anyone.? I don't do it. Yoga Works is going to bring an IPO soon... That interests me a bit... $10,$11 no hype no earnings of course but a Private equity deal... Worth reading a pink sheet on the name I'll tell you that-- maybe the exact opposite of Shot Finder! Growing field for sure.

You know investing has an apocalyptic feel now-- it really does... like it's just me and this cat vanzandt out there and everyone has suddenly had a " happening; " a strange event that has resulted in them giving up their free will and buying index funds.. The true stock picker they say is now only 10% of the market!!! ~si

    Good morning Stoney.
Blue tooth and a speaker by the pool huh? Sounds like you're really roughing it out there in the *wilderness*.

To your point, ... yeah there are a few stock pickers here, not many. Probably even less than the 10% real world aggregate you mentioned. But its quality not quantity that counts. I've been lobbying for a salary for awhile now. No luck so far.

Can GS upgrade/downgrade itself? I always pondered that.
Anyway.... gotta trade.... more to follow. Enjoy the pool. ;)

I got a delivery of a very fine rum yesterday... almost too fine, it's a sipper... what happened? I've lost a day here and now have to play catch up. I am so very sorry to my readers here who blindly buy the ET SI Portfolio each year but I hope and pray some of you bought just off the research and Watch list ( I know some of you do) The ideas provided here on the worlds most exciting Trading forum.. voted ten times over by ET readers!

  10. Roughing it is a state of mind. I'm in my tenth year in Ct on weekends and the summer and only this year last season I dug the hole, only this year did I agree to a pool. Why? Not my wife she has been asking and asking and I say I'm putting a tarp in that swimming hole in the stream and ' creating a pool ' which I have tried to do. I sat in that stream on the hottest Aug days you could imagine with the crayfish and swimmy things and racoon poop and I thought it was just great. To have water on your property is a real real plus. TO HAVE A STREAM RUN PAST YOU...I respected that.

Then the kid has turned 13... and these days kids don't have friends they have game buddies video bots or Facebook freaks-- I'm not sure what's going on but a lot of aliens are dying. And so he's not so hip about bugging out on Fridays and fighting the traffic up here to sit around with no wifi; no computer; no cell phone access and no pool. That's what we had or what we didn't have for ten years and we were happy. Now -- this year WIFI! I gave in.. but I made a solomn oath-- no porno. I won't do it. In the city... well... I just can't help taking a look at the free stuff what any homeless guy can access... it's like a stock symbols to me, it must be researched... but not out here in the pure wood. Here I live like a man would live in the old days... EXCEPT this year I'm freaking out about missing the earnings play on WBC... and wondering when I'm going to enter into SONY, etc...

The pool... I can honestly say What a great investment! I really mean it. I doubt many of you have the taste and class I do and I don't mean that in a snotty way at all just I was raised by a antique dealer mother who bought a lot of houses and filled in a lot of pools I would of loved to swim in. I hid the pool away from the house a bit, you can just see it through the pine tree and it's beautiful over there and to float in some salt water and kick around-- it's amazing. The hours tick buy, you lose track of time, the sun hangs in on our property for a long time and the day is done before you know it and you've missed some important opportunities to add holdings to your portfolio. Much less make dinner. It's a give and take I GUESS. ~si
