I told you CARA would come back to earth! Geeze just getting caught up now with the internet... Apparently after rising way too much on orphan status news this happened: - Analysts split on Cara after OA study misses goal Analysts were divided on the outlook for Cara Therapeutics (CARA) after the company last night reported the results of a Phase 2 trial of the oral version of its CR845 drug for the treatment of osteoarthritis hip and knee pain. Research firm Piper Jaffray called the large decline in the company's stock today a "buying opportunity," saying that the highest dose of the drug achieved "encouraging" results. Meanwhile, Janney Capital downgraded the stock, saying it is now less confident in the outcome of an ongoing Phase 3 trial of CR845 and that the results announced last night will cause a pivotal study of the drug to be delayed for at least a year. Dum dum dum!!! This is why I was saying you need some of that THC in there... just a bit... I mean the patients could of smoked a joint and fixed that knee pain. Cara focuses on treating pain and pruritus, or itching, by targeting the body's so-called "kappa" opioid receptors. --> I have that! PIPER REMAINS POSITIVE: The 5 milligram version of oral CR845 generated "encouraging" data, wrote Piper analyst Charles Duncan. Although it did not meet the primary endpoint of pain reduction, patients who were taking it did show "positive trends" in the area of pain reduction, Once again back to the joint, had the patients received some amount of THC they would of also cleaned their closets! PRICE ACTION: Cara tumbled 31% to $17.51 per share.<-- right back where she started... RNG- This name has me boondoggled. I've been watching it for a while they are doing very well. I'm not sure what they do. RNG on 06/26 RingCentral initiated at SunTrust RingCentral initiated with a Buy at SunTrust. SunTrust analyst Terry Tillman initiated RingCentral with a Buy and a $47 price target and believes is scalable and innovative technology will allow the company to serve ends of UCaaS end markets. The analyst sees catalysts from the emerging enterprise business, channel partner momentum, international expansion, higher lifetime customer value, and increased retention sales. Yup we are going to clean up those UCaas bastards and end markets Bigly!!! Someone explain this to me! As the day dawns and the birds sing I'm leaning towards OA/WBC/RNG these are the early favorites ODFL as well... ~si

Monday. Can one work in the summer? Congress is back for three weeks and then they take Aug off, I shall do the same! I am committed to somehow getting something done here, although at the moment I do not know what. The New ET SI Portfolio is smaller than I like, every year I have approx eleven names-- I wonder if the fact that I was only comfortable with seven says something about the market itself. One of my " big thought " stocks had been paypal and I made some coin on the name, now I wonder if it was a bad sell on my part, should paypal be in this portfolio? Giving us a quasi financial play. No financials, no energy, no transports, usually I have a representative from each... again I wonder is it me.. or the market. My gut says Paypal has one big fall ahead of it before it goes on a mega run and becomes one of those stocks-- one of those expensive stocks. When we start to see many, many $100+ names, we are not quite there yet but we are close, names like chip names that used to be $60 and are now all over $100; I Robot, stocks like that POOL; no one loves POOL more than me check my history here but at some point one has to ask oneself-- it it really worth that much? Value is in the eye of the holder, the holder of the paper-- when too much of this paper costs too much I think folks are forced into these Index funds. Who can afford $100 a share here, $600 a share there. Who can really afford to buy Amazon now straight up? I'll take six shares please... So these Index funds with prices in the $30's that somehow hold all the expensive stocks, that's where the big disconnect will come when it comes, there's something not kosher about Index funds. Anyway, the week dawns and we begin by looking at the areas of neglect in the portfolio, should there be an energy name? What of Philips 66 PSX? ~stoney
Morning spin around and three names are on my hot list. AVT, ODFL & PSX. AVT would be value, PSX would be energy and ODFL has the most impressive chart. All three make a lot of money, are run well and appear to be in constructive markets. Now after the AM research it's a good time to vibe down, chill out after six cups of coffee, have a relaxing sit down on the outside deck. Like the Indians of old, wrap your calves in tight bands, hit the medicine pipe and think through these investments from every angle. Then come back and see if buying that stock is really that important after all. ~si
Friday. Rain. Folks I continue to watch the watch list and to formulate ideas. One stock that i have brought up in this thread a few times is RNG. I have had difficulty pronouncing the Russian names behind this outfit but I have been charting the heck out of the name-- and it has now surfaced as my number 1 watch stock-- which means-- Green Light Buy On Weakness... ODFL is Number 2... and Data storage reit COR is Number 3. This is how you beat the market or at least survive it-- make a watch list and then really watch it. Look for stocks that hold up on down days, even when their particular sector is being hammered and look for stocks that have some analyst chatter throughout the process and we have just that with RNG. Two recent price hikes on targets by major houses they cluster around $45-$47. That number then is my fair value even if I cannot understand this company entirely. The stock is $37 now with support at $35 area. The art of the game would be to buy this stock halfway there at around $36 and hold to $46 between the two target prices-- that's a ten dollar a share opportunity the same that i find in another of our holdings ZEN. My method then is a blend a blend of value-- there has to be some value. And we look at the charts for confidence and hope and projections; with RNG we ask- was that a double top at $38 or not? I think the uptrend is intact and I think this name will be added to our portfolio shortly! We actually have 8 names already not 7. For some reason GWPH the pot biotech was omitted when I summed up the holdings... So if we nab RNG that would be nine and oh if I had only held on to PYPL we would have ten holdings! I will be watching Paypal very carefully when they report hoping for a gap down to buy into. So that's where I am at this morning. RNG- #1 ODFL- #2 SPOTIFY IPO? Waiting on that as well. Earnings season has begun, as promised we will update the thread as appropriate throughout this dangerous summer period. May all your flowers remain uneaten by deer-- I've lost that battle (again) ~stoney
Alright I've done my morning spin around and checked the watch list for movement and one name is really standing out. Sony. It's a big picture LT play but my instinct is this sleeping Godzilla is about to two year wake up! It's hunchy but it's also based on some management shake up some re org and some success I guess at the box office. The stock has perked up and is near it's high, the newest incarnation of Spiderman apparently has been a hit-- I think there's something else going on. I've asked for some house research so I'll dig in later on that. The way it feels now Sony is going to come in RNG then I'm hazy ODFL maybe on a pullback, CFX is another one I'm watching. NARROW WATCH LIST: ODFL/RNG/SNE/AVAV/CFX Yield Idea KNOP (shipping LLP)-9%
Hey Stoney.... Good day sir! Hope you're enjoying the sweet July serenity. FWIW your Shot-Spotter stock (SSTI) and its software is being installed on 500 new cruisers in Chiraq. Shout out here: http://www.thedrive.com/emergency/1...-500-tech-equipped-ford-interceptors-to-fleet Its $14 lol. Don't buy it though. It may pop higher on BS press...but 2 years from now it'll be below $8. Go easy on Bambi in the flower beds whilst you're communing with nature out there... they like buds too. Thanks for all insights, nice having you around.
Back at you Mr Vanzandt! Thank you for the Shot-Spotter update. I anticipated some military use out of the product and now it has come! Many, many, many years ago I invested in a small cap that was Machine gun something they had a machine gun that reacted to muzzle flare from as far away as up in the sky! And it returned a zillion machine gun bullets right on the spot the incoming fire came from incredibly precise. I flipped out for this idea and lost money in the name they cratered and disappeared... and then I was digging through Kratos a name I love in the industry for their Drones (KTOS) and they have affixed just the same tech on one of their drones! This is 15-20 years later! Now I anticipate combining the listening effects of Shot-Spotter with the obliterating effects of the secrete machine gun drone (I'll get you the name later) and we can certainly see how wars will be fought in the future. Each real fighter plane will be accompanied by several of these self piloted planes that can react in an instant to any shot fired. Pretty incredible stuff. AVAV is another name in the game. If you bought KTOS, OA, SSTI & AVAV-- you would have a pretty intense war-based portfolio. Better still these defense names have space applications and Drones and as such I don't see their wares going out of style even if the world calms down a bit. There is a small, tiny paragraph in the latest defense budget that NASA is non too pleased about-- Trump wants to set up a special space warfare division Separate from NASA.Reagan's Star Wars?... I think it's time has come. Ok. Sony!) I have a research report, It looks REALLY good... More to come shortly. NFLX reports tonight I think they sink after. Tomorrow through the end of the week should set up a pretty good buy day for Sony. Researching AVAV later this am. Back soon ~stoney
Action: We revise our forecasts for Sony and lift our target price from ¥4,300 to ¥4,700 (potential return 16%). We maintain our OUTPERFORM rating. We also update our base valuation year to FY3/19 and introduce our FY3/20 estimates. ■ Investment overview: We view Sony's FY3/18 OP forecast as conservative. We think expectations for a full-FY3/18 guidance beat will increase each quarter. We expect strong momentum for the CIS (CMOS image sensors) business, driven by accelerated adoption of dual lens camera smartphones and higher-resolution frontfacing cameras. Sony is boosting production capacity to meet rising demand. We forecast profit growth for games as the PS4 approaches the peak of its life cycle, while the pictures, music and electronics-related segments are stable. We think company-wide OP growth may narrow in FY3/19, due to drop-out of one-off gains in FY3/18 (gains of ¥27bn related to sale of a camera module manufacturing site in China) and a lifecycle peak-out for the PS4 in the games segment. We think stronger growth will hinge on sales contributions from CIS, such as an upturn in external sales of triple-layer stacked sensors containing DRAM or automotive sensors, contributions to earnings from new game businesses (PS VR, PS Vue, smartphone games for the domestic market) and an accelerated recovery in earnings power at the pictures business owing to improved cost efficiencies. ■ Our forecasts: We lift our FY3/18–19 forecasts by 8% and 3%, respectively. - research from Credit Suisse Analyst dated June 14.... The only part I really understand is the Quarter is viewed as conservative and Sony should beat earnings... and future forecasts are up 8% in the next year...
