You really have to hand it to this Eli Manning. He is a future Hall of Famer and he is going out with class. If only more would follow his lead.

  2. Overnight

    Overnight

He got benched. If he were to retire now, how that be honorable, or going out with "class"? His brother went out with style, on a Super Bowl win. THAT was class.

  3. So, you are suggesting that the only way a professional athlete can retire with class is by winning a Superbowl Championship and then quitting?

Maybe every athlete should be required to quit after they win a championship and never have the chance to win two ?

He did not get benched, he handed over the reigns. He is a class act. Never talked shit. He let his play on the field do the talking. So many QBs act like children when their replacement gets drafted. Not Eli, he showed leadership. You have to hand it to him and admire his Hall of Fame career.

With all due respect to Peyton, that last Super Bowl was not his win. They won in spite of him. Peyton even admitted so himself. He was awful.

  5. He is 38 years old and he had a bad 2 weeks with the top running back in the league (in other words defenses had to be zoned in on the run mainly).

    he was benched.

If he was putting up Tom Brady stats at 38 he would still be playing.

Giants were 8-23 last two seasons and started 0-2.

They drafted a top QB in their first round.

He was finally benched to turn to the future. Manning did not go up to his coach and say "Put the kid in, I am done"

He had a great stretch, even 7 or 8 years not missing a start and 2 Super Bowls no one picked him to win. But at some point, at 38 years old, the game moves on and Giants have to. They needed the extra weeks to get their new draftee up to speed and Manning was going to be benched within the first 3 to 4 games unless he was 4-0 and playing like the 28 year old Manning.

With Barkley it is a good time to switch to take the pressure of the QB so was the right time to make the switch. Daniel could get hurt so Manning will stay ready. Especially with Barkley out, defenses will target the new QB.
