Thought of a few others I didn't see. Carl Palmer Steve Smith Carter Beauford Buddy Rich ... and the guy in the Rush tribute band I saw!! He matched Peart's solo in Exit...
A bit of headbanger in you, huh hap? Love it!! By the way, how's the playing coming along? Bonzo is obviously the best rock drummer of all time. A lot of good guys have been mentioned (nice to see Nicko McBrain getting his props, he was great with Pat Travers too). Manu Kache (Peter Gabriel, Sting, etc) Chad Wackerman (Frank Zappa) Kenny Aronoff (too many credits to mention) is famous for the amount of work he gets. Straight ahead but absolutely rock solid. Check out his discography... http://www.kennyaronoff.com/Discography.htm The one guy who always amazes me, though, is Vinnie Colaiuta. He has to be one of the best in the world right now. Btw... he also played extensively with Zappa. Frank had the very best players in his band - I mean the best players on the planet were ready to work with him.
Manu and Vinnie are brilliant players. Loved Nicko as well. Seemed like he had a great personality too. Not sure what his falling out with Pat was all about though. Im a guitarist, but bought a Sonor kit w/ a bunch of Paiste cymbals many years ago because of him!
Been there - I play bass and always wanted to play drums well. Nice that you bought a Sonor kit - nothing like the best (Noble and Cooley aside?). I saw Pat Travers with Tommy Aldridge and P.M.C a few years ago. Basically a club show and they were good, but I wish I could have seen Nicko. I wasn't aware that there had been a falling out...
Born and raised my man. Yourself? You must be a half-breed, also as me. Walking on the moon is an awesome track.
Bass huh? A Steve Harris fan by any chance? As far as the falling out is concerned - I remember a drum clinic several years ago where someone asked Nicko a question concerning Pat... he said something to the effect of "We don't mention or talk about Pat". Given the tone of voice, It didn't sound friendly!
Sure, love him, although I haven't listened to a whole bunch of Maiden. Always amazed by his pick technique, and when I taught, a lot of my students wanted those chops. I'm more a fan of the great studio guys like Nathan East and Patitucci and the great funk players like Jamerson, Larry Graham and of course Jaco (who was a funky mf although he got known for his jazz chops). But all that is for another thread, I guess, unless you consider the rhythm section close enough.
